More than just friends?

Dev Patel and Freida Pinto play childhood sweethearts in the BAFTA award-winning Slumdog Millionaire film but now it is rumoured that the budding actors may be off-screen lovers too.

Co-star Anil Kapoor, who plays the game show host, has fuelled rumours that the pair may be an item by saying “I think this is the beginning of something exciting. They definitely make a great pair and look very good together.”

Dev, 18, starred in the hit TV series Skins before shooting to fame as Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire, which has since won 7 BAFTAS and been nominated for a massive 10 Oscars.

Freida, 24, who plays beauty Latika, is a former model and split with her fiancé Rohan Antao last month, which fuelled further speculation that she and Dev might be more than just good friends.

Anil told Ryan Seacrest on a US radio station: “As a matter of fact, when I meet them I feel there is something happening. But she says things like ‘I have to look after him’ and ‘I have to babysit him’ and that kind of stuff.”

Freida was recently spotted kissing Dev in a bakery in LA as they shared a slice of cheesecake. Dev has denied any romance between them and simply said “We are mates.”
