Ruthie Henshall Celebrity Diet Secrets

Celebrity Diet Secrets: Ruthie Henshall

Monday 16 March 2009

Dancing On Ice judge Ruthie, 42, tells us what’s in her fridge

Where do you shop for food?
Mainly at the Co-op because it’s nearby, then I buy my organic meat elsewhere.

How much do you spend on food?
About £250 every two to three weeks.

What’s your diet like?
Breakfast is cereal for the kids [Lily, 6, and Dolly, 4]. I don’t enjoy eating early, so I’ll rarely have anything. For lunch, I’ll have soup or a sandwich followed by a chunk of chocolate. For dinner I have shepherd’s pie, lasagne or chicken in a sauce with potatoes. I’ll have fruit or yoghurt for dessert or, for a treat, a fairy cake.

Do you ever diet?
At the moment I’m trying the Hay Diet, not mixing carbs and protein – it worked for Jayne Torvill, who looks amazing!

What’s your must-have ingredient?
Mayonnaise – I have it with chips, beans on toast, salads, chicken… anything!

Is there anything you refuse to eat?
I don’t like fruit that much, I only eat organic meat and don’t eat veal or foie gras. I also hate oysters – I tried them once and can’t understand how people eat them!

What’s your favourite comfort food?
It’s got to be home-made macaroni cheese.

Nutritionist Katherine Matthews says:

“Ruthie should try to include more fruit in her diet as it’s a great source of vitamins, minerals and fibre. She could add fruit to smoothies or dried fruit to yoghurt. Starting the day with a hearty breakfast will also stop her suffering from energy slumps too. Ruthie also needs to stick to light mayonnaise as regular mayo is high in fat and calories!”
