Madonna to adopt girl 'in days'

Friday 27 March 2009

Madonna is reportedly just days away from adopting another African orphan, 4-year-old "smiling angel" Mercy James.

The pop star will fly out to Malawi this Sunday to start the legal proceedings, after ofifcials confirmed that the papers have been filed and court hearings will begin next week.

Madge is said to have fallen in love with the little girl in 2007 after spotting her in an orphanage and is determined to return to the UK with a baby sister for her three children Lourdes, 12, Rocco, eight, and David Banda, three.

Ever the business woman, the 50-year-old has reportedly kicked boy toy Jesus Luz to the curb after Malawian officials questioned if it was appropriate for her to date a man less than half her age.

The star said that after her recent divorce from Guy Ritchie she would "throw everything" into adopting Mercy.

Good luck Madge!

RE: Madonna to adopt girl 'in days'

I really don't like Madonna but i admire her for giving not one but two orphans the chance to benefit from living in a happy, loving and secure family and home. Hope all goes well.

Yeh i agree.
I can never understand though why celeb's feel the need to adopt from other country's,yes there are lots of kids needing loving homes, but the parents of these children need educating on birth control, and to be honest there are thousands of kids in their own country needing loving homes.
I'm not against it,i just think some celeb's overlook the many children waiting for a home in their own country.
If they want to do some good work for those country's they should help by educating the mother's and fathers on birth control and stop all these kids from being homeless.

RE: Madonna to adopt girl 'in days'

I agree that adoption is a wonderful thing especially for children from deprived backgrounds. In the case of Madonna adopting David and Angelina Zahara both parents were alive and i think instead of adopting both women could have sponsored the families instead and these children would still be with their parents. And instead of providing two children with a bright future by sponsoring many kids would ensure a lot more happiness for many families. Eighteen years ago my father read about a poor family in Turkey who had just given birth to triplets and as they already had two daughters they said they couldnt afford to keep the babies. My father called the newspaper who ran the article and through them got in touch with the family. He told them that each month he would send them enough money to be able to provide for the children. The family were shocked but very happy and grateful. The triplets (all boys) are at university now and each month they take it in turn to write to my father with photos and reports of their progress and always mention how grateful they are for his help but that they dont know how they could ever repay him. My father replied saying that getting themselves a good education would be payment enough. If the parents are still alive i think this is a much better option and yes i agree that there are many children in this country that need good homes too.

RE: Madonna to adopt girl 'in days'

I agree there are alot of children who need loving homes in there country's how ever there are tighter laws there, here, age for instance,if i wanted to adopted i'd be told i was to old (i'm 41) 9 years younger than madonna,so maybe thats why she's adopting from Malawi.Dont get me wrong i think anyone that adopts(not just celebrities)are fantastic people, but like clarabella said these people need educating, lets not forget David is'nt an orphan his dad is still alive,it was his mam that died,it must have broke his heart to give his son up for adoption.
