Mr Showbiz' inside scoop
Wednesday 01 April 2009
There’s so much going on in the telly and showbiz world right now so I thought I’d fill you in on what I’m hearing right now!
Firstly, let’s talk This Morning. Fern Britton’s off to the BBC for a new quiz style show where she’ll appear as a team captain – so the hunt is on for a replacement Fern!
Last Friday I heard that the producers of the morning show approached Spice Girl Emma Bunton but unfortunately she said no! The person they are really after now is former Boddington’s model Melanie Sykes. She’s interested and they are in talks….
Next, let’s talk Loose Women. The show has been searching for a front woman for the show for quite some time and it seems they’ve finally found what they’ve been looking for.
The popular daytime show has signed up former GMTV star Fiona Phillips to front the spring series. It will be her first big job since leaving GMTV. She’ll be great – but does this mean Jackie Brambles is getting the chop? Hope not…
Geri Halliwell is definitely 100% single right now – she told me she’s “not doing men for a long time for now” over dinner two weeks ago. Sadie Frost, on the other hand, is on the hunt for a new man. I partied with her at Punk nightclub last week where Radio One’s Nick Grimshaw and her played non-stop Madonna tracks. She told me: “I’m free and available!"
Coleen Rooney is indeed preggers – expect the official announcement in two-three weeks, probably in her magazine column!
Davinia Taylor probably won’t be best pleased to know her ex-hubby of just a few weeks, Dave Gardner, was playing the young, free and single man at the premiere of The Boat That Rocked. I spotted him sharking the after party for women! Eeeek.

RE: Mr Showbiz' inside scoop
This Morning
Melanie Sykes: She is better at doing TV Commercials, presenting "Des and Mel" and modelling but presenting a prime time morning TV show is something TV Producers should not endorse and consider her as a serious contender to present this popular TV show, popular though She is I feel it would be out of her depth.
There are other contenders who should be in the race such as Myleene Klass; Denise Van Outen, Kate Thornton or the One Show’s Christine Bletchley.
Christine Bletchley in my view is an up and coming TV personality and stepping into Fern Britton’s shoes would be a great promotion which I feel would suit her down to the ground and would work well with Phillip Schofield.
She has a great sense of humour, well researched, good dress sense, can relate to a wide variety of people, serious when she needs to be as well as other fabulous qualities she has.
Loose Women
Fiona Phillips is a great addition to the Loose Women team and fronting it up after leaving the GMTV sofa. It would be interesting to have some lively personalities such as Jo Brand, Barbara Windsor or Katie Price who are very opinionated, funny and serious also yet very popular.
Jacqui Brambles and some of the others apart from Coleen Nolan are passed their passed by date and need to be replaced by a better quality panel members. Keep Fiona and Coleen but look for several replacements not just one person to be a Loose Women for a week.

RE: Mr Showbiz' inside scoop
Personally, I think Mel would be ideal for GMTV, I think a similar sort of rapport that happens between Fern and Phil could happen with Mel and Phil, she is bubbly, experienced, professional and far supercedes the alternatives listed above.
As for Fiona heading Loose Women, well not a bad choice, but don't let Jackie Brambles go. I do feel there are some strange ideas out there !!!
