Mel Sykes to replace Fern

Melanie Sykes has been lined up as Fern Britton’s replacement on ITV1’s This Morning.

The star, who was spokeswoman for Boddingtons beer in the Nineties, is said to be starting her new role on the daytime show in September.

Mel is no stranger to the presenting world, as she had her own TV show with Des O’Connor in 2003, Today with Des and Mel.

Fern surprised everyone with the sudden announcement that she was leaving the show.

She has been under scrutiny since quitting, with rumours that she was angry over co-presenter Phil Schofield’s rising salary.

nopei wont be tuning in. ive never watched it when fern was on & wont watch it now. a new person wont make me want to watch it. i dont even knwo what the 'shows' about!

Me niether Racheal,some people do have work to go to and jobs to be done than tuning in and watching day time tv!

yep i agree. the only time i watched day time tv was when i quit college, then i got a job & have never watched it since!

Yep it sure is good being paid to have a coffee & read closer online!
Atleast were not sat at home claiming tax payers money sitting on our backsides reading closer online!!
And you both are obviously sat on your backsides reading what weve put! UNREAL!!

Some of you who have made comments must have time on your hands. Personally, I don't think Melanie Sykes is a good choice; I've seen her on a few things including the show with Des o'Connor and she lacks something, not sure what. Incidentally Fern has lost the sparkle she had a bit back and whatever her problem is, it is coming across on screen. Not sure if it is the fact that Phil Schofield earns twice as much as she is grossly overpaid anyway - how much money do these people want? I think Melanie Sykes would be a mistake but might eat my words. Would love to see Richard and Judy back doing the show - viewing would soar!
