Fearne's anorexia shocker

Thursday 09 April 2009
Fearne Cotton was left horrified after she discovered that pictures of her have been used as 'thinspiration' on pro-anorexia websites.

The TV starlet had been busy working on a documentary about how the Internet is fuelling eating disorders in young people.

However, when researching the programme, she was shocked to find pictures of herself on 'thinspiration' websites, who feature photographs of slim (or, indeed, skinny) celebrities and models to serve as motivation for young anorexics to starve themselves.

Upset Fearne exclaimed: "To think girls would use [my picture] is horrific. I wish I could take myself off this website. I don't want to be associated with anything like this."

The 27-year-old also slammed celebs like Beyonce, who publicised details of a two-week juice fast that she undertook in preparation for the movie Dreamgirls.

Fearne said that boasting about hardcore dieting regimes is "irresponsible" as "kids might just take hold of it and start doing it too."

The Truth About Online Anorexia airs on ITV1 tonight at 9pm.

Were you aware of ‘thinspiration’ sites? What do you think should be done about them?

Aww i like Fern, she should get her solicitors involved its disgusting!
These websites are telling young inpressionable girls its ok and the norm to stave yourself,i bet they don't tell them of all the illnesses you can get from doing it?!
There should be a law against it!

RE: Fearne's anorexia shocker

Yes i've heard about them before, who ever sets them up are pretty sick if you ask me,thay should be closed down along with all the other sick sites, however its not just these sites that promotes anorexia, the media is constantly on about who's to fat who's to thin, even you closer are guilty of that, poor Britney slated by you for having SHOCK HORROR a roll of fat when sat down,SHE'S HAD TWO CHILDREN for gods sake,so people in glass house's and all that.

After all you are read by a range of age groups!!!!!!!

RE: Fearne's anorexia shocker

i'd be really upset if was her. fancy using her picture on these disgusting websites!

the government should get IT Wiz's to scan the internet & remove these websites.

these type of websites are helping young girls become so ill, theyll die. i've seen one of these websites before. i was watchin a programme about anorexia. i cant remember what the programme was called. but it was horrific!

girls should learn that curves are good! no one likes to see a skeletal girl walkin down the street with her clothes hangin off her like she was a washing line!! no one likes to see bones juttin out!

RE: Fearne's anorexia shocker

Totally agree with Tigerlilly & Racheal, its not just these sad websites that cause girls to starve, its the mags too!
Everyday there is some sarky remark about "celebs pilling on the pounds" when most of the time the pics are just normal!
God forbid if i was a celeb being a size 14/16 dread to think what would be wrote about me!
Curves are normal,& they look far better than the lollypops you see everday in mags!
Its about time the press praised people for looking healthy instead of promoting sick, underweight walking skeletons!

RE: Fearne's anorexia shocker

I think any one who says the websites are disgusting are commenting on something they have never expierenced neither understand. It is all well being able to judge from the outside but you can never truely have an opinion until you know somebody or are somebody who has expierenced these things.

I have a friend who sadly needed the community of pro ana at one point in her life where she felt she had no where else to turn. Without them she would of been alone and caused harm to herself even further.

The answer is not to shut down these sites but to increase the help and reach out to these women with the vital support they need.

Anyone who has any knowledge of an eating disorder knows that the problem stems from a need to control and have perfection.

These girls need help, not ridicule or judgement.

RE: Fearne's anorexia shocker

yep i agree they need help. shutin down the websites will be helpin! & yes i av experienced this sort of thing, not my self. at school my friend became anorexic. this was through bullyin. even though she was the same size as me & same height. i was never bullied for bein the size i was, but she was. she was a healthy size 12 in year 11. by the time we got to college, she was a size 4. she looked very ill. but now thank fully to help and support she needed, sher weights gone up. i think she's a size 8 now.

& i think that if she would have visited one of these sites, she would have never gained the weight she desperate needed.
