'Madonna's not fit to adopt my Mercy'
Thursday 30 April 2009
Madonna's battle to adopt Malawian toddler Mercy James was dealt yet another blow last night as the biological father of the child came forward and applied to gain full custody.
James Kambewa, 24, said he wants to save his daughter from being raised by a woman who 'doesn't portray good morals'.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, the security guard, who earns only £23 a month, said: 'Madonna has millions of dollars but that doesn't make her a good mum. Parental love is more than money.
'I have seen her in movies of her songs. She doesn't portray good morals. How can a woman of 50 dance almost naked on stage? I wouldn't want my daughter to grow up like that.'
James, who walked out on Mercy's mother when she was pregnant and has never met his daughter, has written a letter to court officials asking for a permanent injunction against Madonna adopting the little girl.
He begged: 'Spare my Mercy that scandal.'
Madonna is said to be confident that the inital court ruling which denied her to adopt the three-year-old will be overturned, hoping it would succeed on the basis that she has the backing of Mercy's immediate family, including her grandmother and uncle.
However, that was before James' appeal. He said: 'I regret I haven't been around for Mercy for the past three years. I hope the appeal fails so that I assume my rightful role as Mercy's dad.'
What do you think? Should Mercy be raised by her biological father or would an adoption (by Madonna?) be the better solution?

i think madonna shouldnt be able to adopt Mercy. she hasnt lived in the country for the length of time she has to be. it would be best for mercy if she was either with her father (if he proves he's cable of looking after her) or her extended family who share her culture & beliefs.

Maybe by their laws Madonna has no rights to adopt this girl but isnt amazing that its taken something like this to bring this girl to the attention of her family. Im not insensitive I understand that they are not in a situation to look after her financially but in all the time this girl has been in care I wonder how many times her family have paid her a visit to show that they still care about her.

I think if he's capable of looking after her,in the sence that he can provide for her, care and love her,she would be much better of with her own father.
And for Madonna to continue with her appeal knowing that Mercy's biological father wont's her is just heartless, how would she feel if it were her?
He know's he's done wrong not seeing Mercy for 3 year's and now he wont's to make it up to her,i think he should be given the chance.
