WEEK 9
Working mum-of-two from Northumberland
Height: 5ft 8
Start weight: 14st 7lbs
Current weight: 12st 8.5lbs
Weight loss this week: 3lbs
Wow – I’ve lost another 3lb this week!! That’s the two stone barrier broken and I feel great!
I am getting a lot of positive feedback from friends which I do sometimes struggle with – I don’t think many of us are good at receiving compliments! It is lovely though and I’m grateful for everybody’s support. And I am so happy with how I am feeling. I hadn’t realised how miserable the weight I had gained had made me feel until now. I am much more positive about life and I’ve certainly got my ‘get up and go’ back! My 7 year old daughter Cerys is still very complimentary about how I am looking and any new clothes I have bought. It’s a brilliant feeling knowing that I can easily purchase from the high street stores and that they’ll generally have sizes to fit now. At my largest I was a size 24 and I can’t ever imagine going back to that. I was also delighted when my size 12 friend gave me a pair or trousers she’d bought and were too big for her. I know it sounds odd but she has always looked so amazing and to be anywhere near her figure is a great feeling!
For half term, I had the whole week off work too. On Wednesday Cerys and her friend went off to a local garden centre to take part in some interactive baking sessions. When I booked the event for her I realised how little baking we had done while I had been on the plan so she was looking forward to it. I spent the session in the café catching up with my friend. Again, preparation was the key (I also have no shame buying a drink and taking my own snack with me!) but I have to say the smell of the warm cheese scones the girls made was irresistible so almost unbearable!! Cerys knew I wouldn’t have one as I am being healthy at the moment!
On Thursday we had a family trip booked to Edinburgh Zoo with the girls and my parents, which meant an early start on the train and a long day out. We took a packed lunch with us, which included lots of healthy snacks. We took the buggy with us (sometimes just for the bags) and I ensured I pushed it up the hills, telling everyone it was good for toning!
I also went on a high wire tree-top walk with Cerys, which was approximately five metres off the ground. I was so happy that I wasn’t too heavy for it, as i was last time we visited! Then halfway through I remembered my fear of heights and my mam had to take over!!!
I am extremely grateful to the support I’ve always had from my mam and dad in my quest to lose weight (and my life as a whole). I am very similar to my dad (looks and build) and I am conscious that I do say things like ‘I’ll always be big’ or ‘I am like my dad’ using it as an excuse for not trying to do anything about it!
From a food point of view I can’t remember the last time I ate red meat, I am loving all the fish on the plan. Last week, I cooked a family meal of poached haddock, sweet potato and salad and everyone loved it. The girls also both now enjoy sushi (the supermarket packs which only include tuna) and prawns!
I can’t believe I am heading into the last week of this process but I am sure this will be a successful week. High Wire exercises aside, I really think I can do anything!! Wish me luck!!
