I've had such a fun week and still lost 3lbs!

Wednesday 20 June 2012

WEEK EIGHT

Working mum-of-two from Northumberland

Height: 5ft 8

Start weight: 14st 7lbs
Current weight: 12st 8.5lbs
Weight loss this week: 3lbs

Another good loss of 3lb this week – I am rapidly heading towards 2 stone now which I am delighted with!! I had never anticipated this sort of weight loss and body shape change in 8 weeks!!

On my return from Boot Camp, I was ecstatic to see how much my fitness levels had improved, we went out for a run on Monday night and I got so much further than I had ever managed before. My friend said how proud she was (I even got a motivating text when I got home despite the fact she went on to complete almost 5 miles). It was a great feeling though and made the hard work of Boot Camp weekend feel even better!  We are also increasing in our numbers now, up to 4 of us running and still growing - it’s great being able to fit exercise into my life with my friends and it’s also free!!

I would sum this week up as ‘fun’!! Like the whole country, we’ve been building up to Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.  The girls had an event at school which I attended with them and took a low calorie snack bar with me so that I could manage a hot drink without visiting the cake stall!

Graham and I also celebrated out 10 year wedding anniversary this weekend so held our own celebrations!! My mam and dad came for supper with us and I was able to plan and prepare a lovely, healthy salad with Graham’s jalapeno dressing with grilled fish.

I’ve found that the food I am eating is so tasty that I am genuinely not craving other fatty foods! We were also fortunate enough to plan a night away at a hotel in Newcastle without the girls (they enjoyed a jubilee themed couple of days with my mam and dad!).

I had made the decision that I would make sensible choices with the food I ate but not allow those choices to dominate the evening and I succeeded! We started in the ‘Executive Lounge’ which included complimentary drinks although I resisted the snacks as we were heading for dinner soon after.  I had some wonderful muscles in a coconut and chilli sauce to start followed by grilled fish and cous cous.  I was so full I couldn’t actually finish it and so found it very easy to resist pudding (in the past I would have forced it down regardless!!) We enjoyed wine and champagne throughout the evening and I am really reassured by my weight loss this week – it proves I have been able to build it into my lifestyle without having to compromise.

I did visit the health club during our stay but despite all of my progress with exercise I have to admit I felt quite intimidated.  There were several hen/birthday parties in the pool area, I was the only person in there without a bikini on and as such I felt very conscious of my size.  However I had a mental pep talk to myself and went into swim, even finishing off in the sauna.  I was pleased that I had given it a go but was also quite happy to get back to our room.

The culmination of our Jubilee weekend was a party at our Allotment.  This is a whole new lifestyle which is relatively new to us but I am luck enough to have an allotment very close to two of my friends.  We decided this was the place to hold out ‘street’ party and would involve a barbeque!  The allotment is like stepping back in time, the children can have a safe amount of freedom between the gardens and can enjoy getting dirty!!  Obviously the intention is to grow fruit, salad and vegetables (so far so good – we have some things sprouting!) but also to enjoy the experience of growing them (and the physical exertion/ sun bathing it includes). I am also aware of how much Cerys and Isla will eat out of the ground from my friends’ allotments – it’s giving them another view of fresh salad and vegetables rather than pre-packed from the supermarket!!

Preparation is definitely the key! While there were a lot of burgers and sausages I had marinated turkey and took a nice fresh salad with me! Again, I filled myself up on my tasty main course which meant that I wasn’t tempted by the home made cakes and biscuits. (Well I was tempted but resisted!)

It was a fantastic day and even the British weather couldn’t spoil it! I felt proud to be part of such a supportive friendship group and proud to be British!

This week may be trickier as the girls and I are all on holiday and I’m conscious that trips out tend to involve food and we have a few things planned. That said I’m so happy with my progress and aim to keep going with the same determination! I’ve had a fabulous weekend celebrating and still lost 3lb so I feel confident I can deal with this week too – wish me luck!!
