'I've been exercising lots this week!'

Tuesday 10 July 2012

Hairdresser and mum-of-two from Middlesex
Height: 5ft 5

Start weight: 14st 7lbs
Current weight: 13st 11lbs
Weight loss this week: 0lbs

I was actually terrified to get on the scales this week, and I have to report that I have stayed the same. I was disappointed, but must also remember I have still lost 10lbs in 5 weeks!

I didn’t do so well on the hen do the weekend before last – I just couldn’t say no! I ended up have 3 very big meals on the Saturday (wrap for breakfast, chicken and salad and a few chips and a burger and chips plus brownie and ice cream, so I defo fell of the wagon. Plus the added crisps and chocolate in the hotel and a small fry-up on Sunday.

I was surprised at how easily I slipped back into my old habits. I’m also amazed at how bloated and yuck I felt doing it and it was a shock to realise I must have felt like that most of the time.

I vowed that when I got home I’d be super-good and train lots. Which I have done!

I have managed to use the gym twice this week. I have been using the bike, the treadmill and the cross trainer. It’s been difficult finding time to get to the gym around work, the girls after school clubs and different activities they do. So I have taken full advantage of using my ‘bun and thigh wave’ which I can do at anytime which is a stepper style machine that mimics the surfing motion. It's meant to be great to tone the bum and thigh area.

I have also been working out along with the DVD's (which comes with the bun and thigh wave) 3 min shark bite programme. It’s called this as you’re meant to feel like you have been bitten by a shark after the workout. I have managed to lose an inch off my thighs since I began a couple of weeks ago.

If you fancy buying a Bun and thigh wave, you can do here!

Closer organised the Boot Camp for me and two other real life dieters in Hyde Park. I have never done anything like this before and was totally terrified. Once we all met up, to my horror the other girls seemed super fit, slim and toned. I felt out of place. We were then introduced to the staff, who were all very nice and had a run through of things. Staff said they were happy for everyone to work to their own abilities as we all know how much and little we are capable of!

First off was boxing (uppercuts and cross jabs etc) which I really enjoyed, then we went into a circuit training session doing sit-ups, press up, squat jumps, burpees, jogging and more. Which really had us working hard. I’m not very good with running/jogging and felt right out of my comfort zone. We had a short break and on to Fartlek which is interval training – short bursts of low, medium and high intensity walking, jogging and running. After lunch was another circuit. The day was hard and I pushed myself a lot more than ever before. I ached all over. We ended the day with a few team games and a cool down.

On day 2, I could hardly walk. My thighs and arms have never ached so much but I guess no pain no gain!!! We started off jogging and doing different leg exercises and then moved onto boxing with running up hills to meet your partner. It’s hard to give 100% when you’re aching. We then went into a 3 set circuit (sprinting on the spot, sit-ups and arm exercises) in bursts of 20 seconds with a 10 second break. After lunch again it was a huge circuit with 10 exercises similar to before (sit-ups, press ups, lying down and getting up, arm curls and speed skaters) but this time in teams of 2. By halfway through I felt totally knackered and had no more energy to push myself. We ended the day with some stretches.

All in all the Boot Camp was a really good experience and showed me that I could do more than I thought I could. The staff showed us things we could do at home and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get back into the exercise after a few days of rest!
