Top celebrity anti-ageing tips
Tuesday 22 July 2008
Growing old gracefully doesn’t mean you have hide away and mourn the loss of youth any more.
There has been a massive buzz about celebrities who look a lot younger than their years without resorting to plastic surgery – and let’s face it, who’s got the millions in the bank to afford a complete body overhaul like Demi Moore (not us, that’s for sure)?
Here are our favourite celebrity anti-ageing tips that won’t break the bank or leave you looking like the Bride of Wildenstein.
Nell Mc Andrew, 34:
The model/TV presenter/ fitness expert is well- known for her amazing body, but apart from enjoying exercise and a healthy diet, the mum-of-one says sleep is her ultimate beauty remedy.
‘Sleep is so good for your skin, your digestion – everything really. All your functions are repairing themselves while you sleep – it’s the best thing you can do!’
Kristy Turlington, 39:
Yes, so she’s one of the infamous original super models, but don’t let that put you off – Kristy exercises like anybody else to keep her body in shape. Her tip to stay youthful? Yoga!
‘Yoga is the absolute best set of tools I can recommend to help one feel and look one’s absolute best at any age.
Through my practice of yoga I was drawn to Ayurveda, a sister philosophy, and also to things that are generally better for me. My diet has gradually changed.
I sincerely feel that beauty largely comes from within. When you are balanced and when you listen and attend to the needs of your body, mind and spirit, your natural beauty comes out.’
Elle McPherson, 44:
The Aussie beauty is not known as ‘The Body’ for nothing – she still looks stunning in her forties, but other than her enviable genes, Elle swears on organic food and exercise to keep her happy and healthy.
'I eat organic and I'd encourage everyone to give it a go. I've never been fanatical about sport but I love to run - I try to do six miles three or four times a week.’
Madonna, 49:
Ok, so Madonna’s excessive exercise and diet regime have left her looking a bit body builder-ish, but she sure looks a lot younger than her nearly fifty years.
Her healthy lifestyle means that she can keep up with her kids and still bust some energetic moves on the dance floor.
The Queen of Pop cuts out all junk food and largely follows a macrobiotic diet (you know, seasonal, organic foods).
Madonna is a big fan of Ashtanga yoga, but she also runs and uses weights to keep in shape.
Lulu, 60:
The foxy lady still has what it takes to light a fire – even in her sixties. And she’s very generous in sharing her secrets to eternal (well, almost) youth!
‘I always remove my make-up before bed. So many women don't but you have to do it properly!
‘I also exfoliate regularly because as you get older it's important to look as fresh as you can. The colouring of your skin can get dull if you leave a layer of dead cells on top.
‘I watch what I eat - In the morning, I have toast or porridge and one cup of coffee. For lunch I'll have vegetables and some form of protein, and the same for dinner.
‘I do trampolining and yoga twice a week. I also run up and down stairs a lot and walk the dogs. I stretch like a maniac every day and work out in the gym. I've also started to learn salsa!’
