People, places, £ or lbs?

What’s most important to you?
Well, what a week! Those of you who also read my free coaching tips at www.alicampbell.com will remember that my ‘to do’ list for the week was longer than a walk by the river when you really need to pee.
I did however get some respite from the madness on Thursday night when I was asked to sign some books at the launch of Lomax’s, www.lomaxpt.com new optimum health and nutrition gym in central London. A tranquil sea of beautiful, healthy, tanned and toned people. And then of course there was me!
What a mixed crowd, an Olympic Gold medalist, world boxing champ, International Rugby stars and even the guy who used to sit in the broom cupboard with ‘Ed the Duck’ as well as countless city high rollers and a fair helping of wannabe WAGs for good measure. A real cross section of ‘successes.’ Depending on what you measure of course.
What Lomax is doing is awesome and all about being the best you, optimum health, optimum performance, optimum success…
But how do you define ‘your’ success?
I have found that for most people ‘success’ can be summed up in one of 3 main areas. People, Places and pounds (of either variety)… for example, It might be that you really value the people in your life and that’s how you define your success, or, it could be the experiences you have and the memories you have collected along the way, or, maybe it’s as simple as the ‘stuff’ you have managed to amass. Those who die with the best toys win, if you like?
My belief is that happiness (and that’s what all success measures have in common) comes in a combination of all of those 3 things… BE, DO, HAVE. I guess and as with most things, when you think about it now for yourself you will find that you are already successful and abundant in at least one of them. Which is it for you? And then of course which are you weakest in?
Success is different for everyone, for me it is simply freedom! The only thing that money can really buy you is choice and I first felt successful when I really felt I had choices, even if that choice was just to get up early… or not!
But your happiness and success is personal, it’s all yours and is never caused by anything outside of you. Happiness and success are not nominalizations (you cannot carry them, drive them or give them to someone else) they are yours. No one else can ‘make’ you happy and nothing else ‘means’ that you are successful. Anything on the outside is just a badge… which badges do you have already? And which are you still to achieve? You’ve guessed it, that’s exactly where to start.
This week focus not on getting more of what you already have but on what’s missing. If you have plenty of ‘stuff’ try focusing on having more experiences or time with friends. If you have lots of time with friends try adding in some experiences or (and I know this isn’t very coachy fluffy) try getting some more ‘stuff’!
Whatever you have, count your blessings and then add to them… It’s your success, you define it for yourself…
