Black Swan

New Exercise Trend - Fitness Ballet

Wednesday 19 January 2011

The newest fashion in health and exercise is Fitness Ballet, which is quickly giving yoga a run for its money as the latest trendy class to attend.  Now with the release of ballet dancing thriller Black Swan, ballet is being put back on the map.

To be honest its hardly surprising that this has become the next big thing in fitness given how good professional ballet dancers look, in fact I’m more surprised that it didn’t catch on sooner.  Now, just like zumba and yoga it’s a class that everyone, even the ungraceful among us can take part in.  Like the traditional exercise fads, there are step by step interactive dvds that you can even buy and use without leaving the comfort of your own home.

You would be right in thinking that ballet itself isn’t an easy thing to pick up, many of the world’s dancers began training as children, but don’t fear, this version is much easier than anything you would see being performed in films such as Black Swan. Which is a sensible thing really, can you imagine how hard it is to balance in every day life let alone whilst wearing silk shoes and standing on one foot in a hall full of people? In fact, I don’t think you even need tutus or silk shoes.

So what is Fitness Ballet exactly?

Fitness Ballet is designed to be a total body conditioning class aimed at people of any skill with an interest in getting fit. The routines incorporate some of the basic recognised ballet moves along with some aerobic exercise set to modern dance music. Boasting an ability to firm up bums, tums and legs the fitness ballet classes take the best ingredients from the world of classic dance and combine them with music you’ve probably heard on the radio and aerobic exercises you’re probably used to taking part in already.

So apart from a bit of stretching (which is always recommended with any form of exercise) it is just what you would normally expect from a trip to a fitness class. If you don’t have the time or the confidence to head out to your local sports centre to check out if there are classes available, there are a range of different dvds on the subject which can be easily ordered from places like Amazon.
