Celebrity marathon top tips
Wednesday 21 April 2010
It’s that time of year again when celebrities don their running shoes to take part in the famous Virgin London Marathon this coming weekend.
The Pricey may have dropped out, but Sir Richard Branson’s Fab Five Celeb team have pointed out the benefits of running and how easy it is - so get inspired!
Natalie Imbruglia, Michelle Heaton, Ricky Whittle, Jenny Falconer and marathon champ Tegla Loroupe are all taking part and are on hand - and foot - to get you motivated, fit and trim through running.
Running is one of the best ways to keep yourself fit, shed the excess pounds and keep the ticking of the age clock quiet. But we’re not talking marathons, here is how to do less and achieve more!
Michelle Heaton
Super-toned Michelle says baby steps are a step in the right direction. Her advice is to build your stamina gradually. Brisk walking and doing 10 minutes of running is a great way to start. Then just add more as you go on. Simples!
Jenny Falconer
Water, Water and MORE water! Jenny Falconer’s key tip is stay hydrated whilst you’re on the move. Not like we haven’t heard this before, but if Jenny’s glow is anything to go by maybe we should take more notice. Around 8 glasses is what the experts say but remember tea and coffee also go towards this. Makes it sound a lot easier now right?
Natalie Imbruglia
Ms Imbruglia’s top tip is to consume carbs as they provide the main source of fuel to keep you going during your workout. It’s a great reason to carry on eating yummy foods like jacket potatoes, rice and pasta bakes seeing as they are rich in carbohydrates. And as you’re running it off anyway, it won’t add to your waistline. Follow in the footsteps of Natalie and try whole-wheat pastas or porridge for boosts of energy.
Ricky Whittle
Hunky Ricky explains how being a couch potato can be good thing! He suggests “planning your run around your favourite TV show, going before it starts and making sure you’re back in time for it” As you fit into this routine set yourself shorter time limits and work on improving your personal best. So a run before Hollyoaks it is then!
Tegla Loroupe
Marathon running champ Tegla Loroupe says the secret is changing your routes. For maximum toning of those pins, try to cover different grounds like grass, pavements and sand. Try uphill routes too, they’re a great way to build muscle mass. Time taken for toning is reduced and you get to check out different local scenery- jog past the fire station maybe?!
