Pimp your profile!

Thursday 12 February 2009
Social networks create an interesting conundrum – they’re a great place to meet like-minded people from across the entire globe, but it can be difficult creating a profile that attracts interest from people you might be interested in in the first place…!

Ever thought your Facebook/MySpace/Bebo profile could be a little more than a site to laugh/cringe/admire (delete where applicable) photos from boozy nights out and social gatherings?

Leave it to online dating expert Cheryl Ashbrook who has shared EXCLUSIVE tips with Closer Online readers to give your social networking profile a boost - and hopefully? Your new-found flirt will follow suit!

*You’ll find it much easier to create a great profile if you spend a little time thinking about yourself first. Ask yourself a few questions;
- What do you really like to do?
- What makes you laugh?
- If you could be anything or anyone who would you be?
- What things fascinate you?
- What are you good at?
- What are you bad at but would like to do better?
- Has something funny happened to you lately?
- Have you just learnt a new skill?

*You get the idea! If you think about yourself objectively and write down a few ideas, you’ll soon find that you have more than enough material for your profile.

*Now you need to ruthlessly edit what you have. Pick out the best ideas, the most interesting points, the things that reflect the real you and they will form the basis of your profile.

*You might want to add some key words about yourself, your hobbies or your career, depending on the site. Think about how friends, family or colleagues might describe you. List your passions and your skills.

*Don’t forget your username. Your username might reflect one of your hobbies, a favourite character in a film or a book or perhaps your nickname. People browsing through will see this first so make it count!

*Some sites will also show a headline next to your photo. Give this some thought as it is the thing that will make someone click on your profile or move onto the next. Make it count, grab some attention and make it relevant!

*Photos are important! It makes you ‘real’ for people and makes them more likely to contact you. Make sure your picture is close up so they know it’s you and smile! It’ll make people more likely to want to contact you!
