Gyrate away the inches with hula-hooping!
Friday 04 September 2009
How would you like to spend an evening indulging in one of your favourite past-times and having a laugh with your gal pals – oh, while you burn a few hundred calories at the same time?
Well that’s exactly what we did this week when we were invited along to fitness company, Polestar’s Hula-Hoop launch class.
Hula-hooping is THE latest fitness craze to hit town. Not only because of its fun approach to keeping in shape, but it also boasts an array of fitness benefits. Amazing!
The cardiovascular exercise can burn a whopping 100 calories in TEN MINUTES, is great for core abdominal muscles and will not only give you a washboard stomach, but will also make those love handles a memory of the past.
It also helps with general improvements in coordination, posture and grace.
In short – hula-hooping is a fully body workout, targeting legs, arms, bums and tums.
Hula-hoop teacher, Emma McCarthy, told us: “Hooping is better than doing sit-ups. Not only is it more fun, it’s a lot safer too. You’re far less likely to injure yourself using a hula-hoop than doing sit-ups.”
And after having done a test run for you (how nice are we!?) - you can be assured that this is a class well worth trying out.
Emma also added: “If you use the hula hoops for 20 minutes everyday, in a couple of weeks you will absolutely see a difference. There’s no way you won’t.”
And indeed, class teacher Emma is testament to the sport herself. She has been hooping for a year and a half and has dropped two dress sizes in that time!
She added: “It’s the best cure for cellulite as well. It’s the only thing I’ve ever found which actually gets rid of it!”
If you’re still not convinced - this fun and frolic-filled fitness experience has avid followers in Beyone, Liv Tyler, Kelly Brook and Michelle Obama.
Surely if these hot ladies are hooping, then it must be doing something amazing, right?
(Oh, and just for the record, our stomachs were KILLING the next day. Gwen Stefani abs anyone…?)
