Transform your teeth with invisible braces
Friday 18 December 2009
Everyone wants the perfect Hollywood smile but few can bear the pain of going back to hideous railway track braces to get their nashers straightened out.
I was horrified when my teeth started to move back into a crooked mess in my early 20s. After dreading that I would have to go back to those awful Ugly Betty days, I read in the papers about the miracle of ‘invisible braces’ – known as lingual braces.
Like traditional braces, they are made up of a series of metal clips or brackets which are bonded to the teeth and threaded together with flexible wire, gently nudging the teeth in the right direction. But the best thing about them is that they can’t be seen!
I booked an appointment in to see the leading expert in lingual braces Dr Asif Chatoo – from London Lingual Orthodontic Clinic – who’s already treated model Kelly Brook and TV presenter Steve Jones.
After Dr Asif assured me that the treatment wasn’t painful and I felt confident that I was in safe hands, I arranged to have my braces fitted in October 2007.
Initially I found the braces quite hard to get used to – I had a lisp for a couple of months and eating food became a minor battle. But I quickly became adapted to the braces and within a few months I barely noticed them.
In January 2009, I had the braces removed and I’ve never looked back. It’s totally changed my life – I feel a lot more confident and I always get compliments about my perfect teeth!
* Lingual braces are worn for between six and 24 months.
* They costs around £6,000 to make and fit a full set of metal alloy lingual braces, for top and bottom rows of teeth, and they are only available privately.
