Joss Stone latest pro-drug celebrity
Tuesday 10 November 2009
Joss Stone has become the latest in a long line of celebrities to speak out positively about drug use, as she claimed that soft drugs are safer than alcohol in a controversial interview.
The 22-year-old singer was condemned by anti-drugs campaigners as she spoke out about using cannabis - a drug that was recently reclassified from Class C to Class B after mental health risks were exposed.
Joss told Star magazine: 'I smoke weed, but I don’t think it’s really a drug. It’s more of a herb. I think everyone smokes weed and people who say they don’t are lying!'
Joss defended the bad reputation that marijuana has, saying: 'Weed has been given this evil stamp, but how is it dangerous? It’s going to make you laugh you’re a**e off? You might go to sleep?
‘I think alcohol is much more harmful. People beat the f**k out of each other on alcohol. But I don’t smoke weed all day long.'
Joss also added that she doesn’t have a crazy partying lifestyle, either, opting to spend her evenings indoors rather than out.
'I live in Devon and hardly ever go to clubs. When I do, I’ll drink three or four beers then move on to a vodka. I don’t want to take all those horrible drugs. Although some sound fun, so I might dabble now and then!'
David Raynes, head of the National Drugs Prevention Alliance, was furious at the news: 'People like Joss Stone should keep their mouths shut about things like this. It is terribly damaging and she clearly hasn't considered the wider effects of the drug,' he said.
Other critics have accused Joss of using a controversial topic to drum up publicity for her latest album.
Other celebrities who have admitted casual soft drug use include Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse and Elton John.
The risks of cannabis include paranoia, excessive eating (also known as the munchies), mental illness and panic attacks.
What’s more, the fact that cannabis is an illegal substance means there is no way to regulate any product that is sold, adding a wealth of risks to its use.
Should celebrities speak out about drugs? Are drugs more dangerous than alcohol? We want to know your thoughts!

RE: Joss Stone latest pro-drug celebrity
I dont think there is anything wrong with Smoking weed. It has been medically and scientifcally proved to help with MS, Cancer and other various illnesses and diseases.
This is done through an organic chemical that weed has known to be CBT this also prevents psychosis when smoking the weed. If Weed was made legal the Government would make £40billion a year in tax if it was regulated properly.
The main reason why cannibis is illegal in most countries is because of the oil companies. Hemp Oil is natural oil that reduces carbon ommissions and is healthier for the environment. George W. Bush Snr's parachute and clothes were made from Hemp Oil int he second world war. However the big oil companies could not allow Hemp Oil to take over their business. If no one believes this please research it and you will find it to be true.
Yes I agree with Joss Stone because as a recovering alcoholic at only 26 years of age and a smoker of the weed I can tell you from experience that weed is nowhere near as dangerous as Alcohol. Alcohol should be classed as a Class A drug but no because it is seen as more socially acceptable to get drunk, beat people up, get arrested and cause chaos on the streets.
Anyone that thinks Weed is worse than Alcohol has obviously never smoked it or has heard wrong stories about it
