Latin dances

The Latin dances

Friday 12 September 2008

Cha Cha

The Cha Cha is a fun, flirty and sensual dance with an infectious rhythm. The steps engage the hips, thighs, calves and lower back muscles which makes for an intense work-out. Cha-cha dancing can burn hundreds of calories per hour even at a moderate pace, but it is so much fun you won’t even notice you’re exercising.

Samba

The Samba is slightly more difficult to master but it is a sexy, cheeky dance that works the thighs, hips, glutes and calves. It’s excellent for strengthening your core muscles and improving your posture and balance. The fast-paced samba is great for burning calories – and, best of all, you can dance it solo – so you can work a few steps into your housework routine!

Jive

If you like shaking your booty all over the room, you will love the Jive – it’s the perfect dance for gregarious, energetic people who enjoy to let off some steam on the dance floor. This dance burns up to five hundred calories per hour and works all your muscle groups – perfect for losing weight and toning up.

Rumba

The Rumba is the spirit and soul of Latin American music and dance. It is dramatic, sensual and seriously sexy – but it requires a great deal of concentration and alertness.

Practicing the rumba will improve your balance and posture like no other dance – and you will gain flexibility as you progress to all those floor-sweeping, back-bending moves.

Paso Doble:

The Paso Doble is arguably the most difficult of Latin dances because it involves a great deal of concentration and coordination – but the results can only be described as majestic.

In this dance, the man mimics a matador whilst the woman represents his cape. To get the shapes right you will have to stretch your whole body and the constant arm lifting makes this an excellent work out.
