'I sell my breast milk to men'

Monday 23 November 2009

Gemma Wint produced an astonishing four pints of milk a day while she was breastfeeding daughter Alana. But rather than throwing away the excess, she hit upon a money-spinning opportunity – selling it to men obsessed with drinking it.

Breast Milk gemma Wint

“I’d read about a woman who sold her breast milk and raised enough to buy a new car,” says Gemma, 24, from Bargoed, South Wales. “I put an ad online and was stunned when a man agreed to pay £50 for a pint.
“It didn’t bother me why he wanted it – it was just an easy way to make some money to help pay for things for the children,” adds full-time mum Gemma, who lives with her partner, Andrew Shereston, 26, a mechanic.

Gemma, whose breasts are 44H, had struggled to produce enough milk to feed her first child, Sebastian, now three. But when Alana came along a year ago, she was lactating so much, Gemma ended up expressing milk up to eight times a day.

“It was so uncomfortable, so I just kept expressing,” says Gemma. “I’d get up to half a pint a time and Alana couldn’t drink it all.”

Gemma froze the extra milk, which can be kept for up to three months, but when she started to run out of room in the freezer for food, she decided to start selling it.

Gemma did some research on the internet and discovered hundreds of men who wanted to buy breast milk. Soon she was sending off batches of frozen milk by express delivery up to three times a fortnight.

"One guy ordered a pint a week and put it on his cornflakes,” laughs Gemma. “Another asked me to wear a white bra and leak milk onto it until it was dripping wet.

“I picked out an ugly old maternity bra and when I was done, I popped it in the post. I think he wanted to sniff it – though I didn’t dare ask – but it earned me £30.”

Gemma says she never felt exploited, but had to deal with a number of unsavoury requests. “Some men offered me £200 to nurse them, then masturbate them. But I drew the line at that,” she says. Partner Andrew was unfazed by Gemma’s unusual sideline. “I didn’t mind – she had plenty of it,” he says. He also helped out in another way – suckling at Gemma’s breast for up to half an hour at a time.

He says: “I like the taste – it’s creamy and sweet. I’d only drink Gemma’s milk – but I admit it’s a huge turn-on.”
Since she stopped breastfeeding three months ago, Gemma’s milk supply has gradually decreased. “I’m taking the ad down now,” she says. “But I made £750 in five months – and it all helps!”

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

Doesn't Gemma know how precious breastmilk is? Her milk could be donated to sick & premature babies, it gives babies the best start possible in life but sometimes there are reasons why the mum of a newborn, particularly a premature baby, cannot breastfeed herself.

It is sick that she will sell this precious milk to these perverted men who sniff or drink it, when it is actually a life-saving resource.

Find breastmilk banks, who use breastmilk for the right purposes, at the following link:

this sounds really disgusting but if it helps her make money and the partner does not mind then its ok

sounds weird though

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

I think this is a great idea. I have been looking into this myself.

I see some people dont agree with it but going by the state of the country at the moment every penny counts. I'm 38 weeks pregnant, having to sell my flat and pull out of my fixed rate mortgage and will be left with huge fines and approx £5-10k debt. Not the best situation to be in when about to have a baby. So every penny counts just now. My boyfriend is doing as much work as he can and this is something I can do.

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

Reply to jcarney I have had a look at the link you posted and all of the hospitals that accept breastmilk donations are in England. If you had read the article properly you would have seen that Gemma is in Wales. I'm sure she is hardly likely to just pop to London or Birmingham with a bag full of breastmilk. There is also a screening process as there is a risk of infection to babies taking breastmilk from somewhere other than their mother's breast.
Try using your commonsense before judging people!

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

I personally don't see the problem with what she's done.
She may have looked down the donation route prior to deciding to sell it but even if she didn't, if there is demand for a product and people are willing to pay for it and she was able to do it without it affecting her daughter's intake of milk, then who's to say she shouldn't do it?
The cost of living is increasing constantly and babies don't come cheap either so why not make a few extra pounds by selling a product?
Its only the same when people or shops sell underwear. Who knows where the knickers are going to or what they will be used for. It doesn't stop the shop from selling it though does it?
I say good on her for doing something that not many other people have thought of doing!

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

PoppingPrincess;
Breastmilk saves the lives of babies. I really don't see the argument against me here?

If there is that many milk banks in England I am sure there is some in Wales. That link was the first that came up when I googled it, so I am sure there are plenty more!! You think its ok that perverts should get this life saving milk so Gemma can make £750 over 5 months, in lumps of £20 & £30, its not exactly life-changing money for her, but there are babies out there crying for this milk.

Of course it can be transported, just like bloodbanks. And yes of course it is screened, just like blood is, so I still don't see the problem with this. Perhaps you should take your own advice and use some common sense before judging me!

And how can you compare breastmilk to a knicker shop. Do knickers save lives? No, so who cares what people do with them.

You obviously haven't breastfed and seen the unbelievable benefits of it.

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

Wow well this isn't what I expected!
I am the Gemma from the article and I've got to say, alot of the article is wrong from what I told to the author, Victoria.
First of all, I'd like to stress that I did initially ask about donating the milk to hospitals as my grandma had mentioned it was something they used to do.
I spoke to my midwife and she said that they don't take it at all in Wales anymore.
The idea of selling the milk didn't come until a good few months after my daughter was born.
This whole article was not my idea, I was contacted by a journalist wanting to do a story and it all happened very quickly and my side of things clearly wasn't listened to properly.
I am sorry if the story has offended anyone but it has been taken out of proportion.

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

Hi Gemma, glad to hear your side of things. Its a bit of a shame stories aren't told properly, I read the same on a few of the other stories also.

Good on you for looking into the donations firstly, obviously this was a bit of a sore point for me!

I certainly wouldn't judge you using your milk for anything else after that :-)

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

Thank you for your comments though, it gives people a look at other options if they do have too much breastmilk.
I do agree with your view of breast being best, thats why I persevered with expressing for my daughter for so long.
I would have been delighted to provide milk for sick babies too.
I do like to help when I can :)

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

hi gemma i have looked into this as i am breastfeeding to!you can only donate milk between day 4 and up until your baby is three months ideally but if the banks are desperate they say before the baby is on solids!so for a lot of people this is before 4 months however, like me many people now do not wean their babies until 6 months as guidlines of the world health organisation.so between 1 and 5 months i would say and it sounds like you were feeding for a long time!i think it is very strange that men want this as it is for babies and babies only in my opinon but like you say you have feed your baby, tried to help others and told no there is no point in pouring it down the drain when you can earn money for you little ones eh!i totally support what you are doing and would do it to!where did you research it??i can find anything!

Did anyone hear about the guy who drank breastmilk and it helped cure him from prostate cancer ? .. So if gemma wants to sell her milk .. It may help someone .. There are millions of women who can donate breatmilk to hospitals.. so no need to get onto Gemmas case . As for people who think its gross .. They have serious issues with themselves i think .. ,, Good luck Gemma ..

I think as a new mum myself that selling your breast milk was a fantastic idea, babies arent cheap and every penny counts.
I am currently on maternity leave and producing quite alot of milk, more then my 6 week old can eat/drink and am totally skint so wanted to look into doing some thing to raise a bit of extra cash.
i would be greatful for any tips on selling my own breast milk.

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

Did you's ever stop to think the guy might have cancer and will do anything and pay anything to get something which may help? I have seen programs on tv and read articles about males who have used it and their cancer has stopped in its track and in many cases gone away completely due to the proteins found only in this type of milk. So don't come on here talking complete rubbish about men being perverted etc when you's haven't got a clue about all the facts!!!!

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

wow! the so called perverts are of course human beings! do you know that most people due to the massive amounts of antibiotics in the environment have compromised gut flora and hence a weak immune system. research suggests that only bacteria that have been programmed by another person, not the ones you buy in the supermarket such as yakult, and actimel, will take root and multiply in the gut permanently. if people have a deep urge to get hold of this milk there is a good reason, if they heal some part of themselves and become better men, this world will be a better place, because there are a lot of men in pain who are inflicting pain on people.

I know this is an old article and im just hoping there are still people following it. As has been said you can only donate breastmilk during a certain time so why not make a few pennies from the surplus. I am doing the same just now bu really needing some pointers on where to post my ad etc. Can anybody help as seems like quite a few of you are in the same boat?

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

I know this is old but I feel I need to have my say as well. I've seen a lot of people say that it's disgusting she hadn't donated her milk to premature babies who need it. I would just like to point out that even if you smoke you can't donate milk actually so it's not as simple as you might think. Also, sometimes you have to live close to a hospital to donate. It all depends on where you live.

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

Good for Gemma ...there is nothing perverted about selling your own breast milk. I am a Midwife and see nothing wrong with it. So many mums are struggling for money with small babies...why not sell excess breast milk? Hospitals in Wales will not take breast milk any more...when I had my son 24 years ago in Wales he had donated breast milk, as he was premature..I was so grateful for that....then when he started to feed from me I had lots of spare milk so I gave it to my then Midwife then health visitor for the breast bank...but now you cannot do this in Wales. Also you are only allowed to donate milk from the 4th day till around 3 or 4 months old so it is silly to day this lady should not sell her breast milk and she should donate it. It is her life.
She needs the money and it is her body and there is nothing wrong about milk. There are a hell of a lot worse things in the world going on to worry about than a pint or two of breast milk!
Also for those 'holier than though' maybe you could go and work for a children's charity instead of getting paid for going to work?? I mean with so many kids that need charity workers how selfish to get paid for doing a regular job? lol....

I think Gemma was very enterprising to do this and I would have done it myself if I could when I was skint when my kids were tiny...

Such shame that newspapers feel the need to twist articles like this and that Gemma had to rectify that her words had been taken out of context.

I've got spare breast milk for sale at the moment. Have tried donating it but apparently you can't donate it frozen. There's too much for my little one to drink and it would be a shame to see it go to waste. proud_mama666@yahoo.com if you're interested. I'm in the North-East UK. Please no hate mail. Any money goes into a savings account for my little one.

I've got spare breastmilk for sale. I am a very healthy single Mum and have an excellent diet, producing a lot of surplus milk which I have frozen. I live near Chichester, West Sussex, I can post frozen milk in insulated specialist 'breastmilk storage bags' which will arrive with the buyer the day after posting and will be fine for consumption on the day of arrival. Email for more details ... deb.fox2002@googlemail.com. All funds raised will of course help to provide for my beautiful little one (he feeds first and I intend to sell only the excess which I would otherwise have to throw away).

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

Ladies please keep up this service of selling fresh breast milk, utilising your milk is better than wasting it.
It does not matter, if it is consumed by an adult, or a child, atleast its not being wasted. some people has indicated that men use this milk because they are perverted is wrong. All those people who got this bad mentality, saying that it should not be used by an adult men are mentally sick. Almost all human being have tasted the breast milk, than why objecting for an aduult. ladies please keep up selling your breast milk for every body.

RE: 'I sell my breast milk to men'

You can start donating breast milk anytime before your baby is 6 months old to milk banks and can continue until you want to stop. You freeze it and the bank will collect it. The Cheshire and North Wales milk bank will collect and donate all across the UK and helps save the lives of thousands of sick and premature babies. I personally couldn't give my milk to men for their sexual pleasure but don't judge those who do especially in the current economic climate and I think the lady in this article is massively underlying her liquid gold.
