‘My sex dolls come on holiday - wife stays home

Married dave hockey insists he’s happily married and enjoys a satisfying sex life with his wife. Which makes it all the more surprising that the dad of two also admits he’s spent a massive £16,000 on a collection of 14 sex dolls.

Most women would be shocked to discover their husband was having sex with a silicone doll but, incredibly, Dave, 57, is adamant his wife – 64-year-old Wendy* – isn’t bothered about him having intercourse with his playmates. In fact, busy doctor Wendy is so laidback about Dave’s relationship with the dolls, she even stays at home working while he takes them on luxury holidays.

Now Dave, who’s filming a documentary about himself and other collectors, says: “My dolls are my world – I love spending time with them, and styling their hair. I’m making the film so I can show them off to the world.

“Wendy sees it as a hobby that keeps me out of her hair. She isn’t threatened by them – she knows I’m not going to run off with a piece of silicone shaped like a woman. She even likes to help me choose dresses, underwear and shoes for them.”

Dave, an advanced driving instructor and video producer from Nova Scotia, Canada, bought his first dolls, Samantha and Janelle, in 2006 for £400 from the internet. Both dolls are “Teddy Babes,” a type of sex doll  made out of a plush velvety material. He claims he was searching for teddy bears when he discovered the Teddy Babes. At 4ft tall, they’re smaller than real women, but their wire “skeletons” mean they can be manipulated into a variety of positions, plus they’re softer than normal silicone sex dolls. 

Dave says: “I thought the Teddy Babes were cute. I’d been curious to try sex with a doll for 10 years, so I didn’t feel embarrassed the first time I did it.”

Although he now has sex several times a week with his dolls, he says: “It doesn’t compare to real sex because the doll can’t respond like a real woman. But you can move them into exciting positions.”

Amazingly, Dave claims his wife wasn’t upset when she first found out about his dolls, though she’s never joined them in bed together.

Dave explains: “She was surprised when I told her I’d bought dolls, but she realised it made me happy and accepted it. She wasn’t offended because she’s quite open-minded, and we still have a healthy sex life.”

Dave bought his first silicone doll, Bianca, in 2007, for £2,000. Brunette Bianca, who’s 4ft 11, has 34B boobs and hazel eyes.

Since then he’s bought 11 more dolls – “Teddy Babes” Carley, Diana, Miyuki, Nita and Jessica; and silicone dolls Gabrielle, Jocelyn, Lilly, Ruby, Jenny and Jessica Drake. All the dolls live at his production studio to keep him company at work.

His favourite is Bianca, who appeared in 2007 comedy flick Lars And The Real Girl starring Ryan Gosling – a film about a man who strikes up a relationship with a doll.

“She’s my pride and joy. I think she’s the most famous doll in the doll community. I dress her with a girl-next-door look like her character in the film,” Dave boasts.

His other favourites include raven-haired Lilly, who he sits at his wife’s piano, and Gabrielle, who has interchangeable faces.

Dave says: “I rotate her face from time to time to keep things exciting.”

Dave’s relationship with his dolls is unconventional to say the least, but what makes it all the more remarkable is his willingness to take them out in public.

Over the last 20 months, Dave has taken some of them on jaunts around the world to meet and interview other doll collectors for his documentary. So far, their luxury breaks have cost £19,000 in total.

In May 2008, Dave took Bianca, Samantha, Jessica and Nita on a seven-week tour across America, visiting the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls. The five shared a hotel room, but Dave says he only had sex with one doll at a time.

During his road trip, he found himself having to convince strangers silicone Bianca wasn’t a real woman.

He says: “I accidentally left Bianca in a wheelchair facing the car while I enjoyed the view of the mountains in Aspen. When a stranger passed by she screeched: ‘Oh my God, how rude!’ But when she realised Bianca was a doll, she asked if she could pose for a photo with her.”

The holidays without his wife continued in January 2009 when he flew to Las Vegas with Jessica and Nita for a doll collectors’ convention. Bianca has also been for a spin on the back of a Harley Davidson with Dave, as well as skydiving and horse riding.

Dave says: “It took 30 minutes to get Bianca in her jumpsuit – it’s the hardest outfit I’ve ever had to put on a doll. The instructor who jumped in tandem with her said it made a pleasant change to not have someone screaming in his ear.”

In November 2009 Dave blew nearly £2,000 taking Bianca and Carley to Britain, where they visited attractions including Stonehenge, Blenheim Palace, and Goodrich Castle in Herefordshire.

“At Stonehenge two women asked if their boyfriends could have their photos taken with Carley. I don’t think they realised they were sex dolls,” Dave chuckles. “Staff at Goodrich Castle wouldn’t let us in because Bianca’s barmaid outfit was too raunchy.” 

During his research holidays, Dave let his Teddy Babes “sleep” in his bed, but at home they’re only allowed that privilege when he and his wife are in separate beds.

Dave insists: “I still have a great sex life with my wife, but sometimes she prefers to sleep alone as I fidget in the night. But she’ll give me a Teddy Babe to help me sleep, because they’re nice to snuggle up to. I tried sleeping with the silicone ones, but they’re too hard and uncomfortable – after a night with Bianca, I had a bad back for days.”

Dave says most people know about his doll collections, and he isn’t embarrassed.

And, incredibly, even his daughters, aged 25 and 23, have accepted them.

He says: “I didn’t tell them I had the dolls until I started making the documentary – which they thought was fun. But I’ve now got some dolls that I don’t use in the film so I think they’ve realised that if I’ve still got sex dolls, I’m having sex with them – they just don’t ask me about that.”
