Facebook think I'm a fake!

What would you do if you came home, turned on your computer and tried to log you’re your Facebook account desperate to catch up on the gossip and stalk old school friends and found that the site had branded you a fake and locked you out of your account?
Doesn’t bare thinking about does it?
Well. social network giants Facebook have done just that to one poor user, under false accusations that she is impersonating Prince William’s future wife.

Healthcare assistant Kate Middleton, 29,  no relation to the future queen of England has been locked out of her account since last Thursday after the site claimed she had registered under a fake name.

Ironically, Kate’s boyfriend Jonathan Ross has not been accused of being a fake, despite sharing his name with the television presenter. Neither has changed their name by deed poll or claimed to be their famous counterparts.

Kate who lives in Kingsway, Northants, has complained to Facebook but they have refused to back down.

'I still can't get on, I've had no contact from Facebook about the situation or what they are going to do,' she told reporters. 'On Thursday I was logged in as usual all day, then I went out in the evening with friends and got a call from partner saying he couldn't see me on there any more.
I thought nothing of it but later that evening I came home and tried to log in but got an error message that said it had been disabled.'

Despite repeated attempts to reset the account and contact Facebook Kate has been unable to log back in. Apart from the annoyance of not being able to keep up with her contacts, she went on to complain  'I have pictures of my nephew on there who is growing up, and all my contacts. Some of those people I haven't seen for 15 years since I was at school I don't know if they ever do let me back in whether that will be saved.”
Continuing with her story, the healthcare assistant insists that internet giants Facebook
“should have got in touch with me first, asked me to contact them within a set period of time and prove who I was.”

Facebook has over 600 million users world wide, so surely there must be others who share a name with a celebrity and are also at risk from being locked out of their accounts. The site, recently subject to critically acclaimed film The Social Network, are refusing to back down and reinstate Kate’s profile.

A spokesperson for the social networking site said The account was disabled because the name under which it was registered was fake, We do not allow users to register with fake names, to impersonate any person or entity, or to falsely state or otherwise misrepresent themselves or their affiliations.
Operating under an alias detracts from the value of the system as a whole.   Users who operate under fake names are also prone to abuse. We take this standard very seriously and remove fake accounts as we become aware of them.'
Even though Kate has contacted the site on numerous occasions she is still as of yet, unable to access her account which contains all of her contacts as well as personal photographs.

Its not just people who share names with famous folk being kicked out of their Facebook accounts, TV presenter Dermot O'Leary told Absolute radio's Christian O'Connell that he no longer uses the social networking site after being thrown off for impersonating himself. 

"I've got to be honest, they chucked me off Facebook - they thought it was someone pretending to be me, so I haven't got a Facebook, they literally threw me off Facebook, how annoying is that?"
The X factor host is currently in talks to front the us version of the X factor.
