'I've had a baby with my dad'

Jenny Deaves had always longed to meet her estranged dad, John. Her parents had split when she was just a baby, and her father was a stranger she knew only from photographs.

But the long-anticipated meeting with her father changed Jenny’s life in a totally unexpected way – they became lovers. Despite their affair causing a bitter family rift and the couple being charged with incest, they’re still together almost eight years on. Incredibly, they’ve had two children together and both remain unrepentant about their forbidden love.

No Shame

“I don’t think what we’ve done is wrong and we’ve never been ashamed of it,” says Jenny, 39. “I don’t see John as my father and there’s no way we could have stopped what happened. We feel we were destined to be together – we’re soulmates.
“It was very confusing at first, because I knew he was my father – but he never felt like my dad.”

Jenny’s parents split in 1969 and from the age of one, Jenny was brought up by her mum, Joan, 60, and stepdad David*.
 
“Mum never wanted me to have any contact with my real dad,” she says. “But I couldn’t help being curious about him.”

Eventually, at the age of 15, Jenny went to spend a week with John, now 61, at his home in Adelaide, South Australia.

“It was awkward because we were strangers, but we soon relaxed in each other’s company,” she says. “I wasn’t attracted to him at that stage, though.”

As John lived thousands of miles away, the pair only kept in contact through occasional letters and Christmas cards.  Jenny went on to marry husband Michael* and have two children, Samantha, now 15, and Alexander, 10. John married twice more and had another daughter, who he no longer sees.

But in 2000, Jenny’s marriage ran into trouble – and the first person she turned to was her biological dad.
“I felt very down about my marriage, and I also wanted my children to meet their real granddad,” says Jenny. “It was a chance to take their minds off what was happening.

Attracted to my Dad


“We spent two weeks together and it was then I started to feel attracted to him. I remember thinking he was good-looking, but I was confused. He was 22 years older than me – and he was my father.”

After returning to her home in New South Wales, Jenny, a full-time mum, desperately wanted to see John again. They remained in daily contact and he agreed to visit her three weeks later.

The family went on a trip to the zoo and stayed in a caravan. And, after staying up to chat one night over a few drinks, Jenny climbed into bed with her dad, as her children slept just feet away. “I thought we could innocently share a bed,” insists Jenny. “But when John rolled over to give me a cuddle, I wanted more.”

The pair began kissing, before having sex. She says: “I remember my brain screaming, ‘We shouldn’t be doing this,’ but I couldn’t stop myself. It felt wonderful and right – and I was relieved that what I’d been feeling was reciprocated. We didn’t use contraception, but I didn’t care.”


Later that night, John asked Jenny if she was OK with what had happened. “We talked for ages and neither of us were ashamed about what we’d done,” says Jenny.  “I just held his hand and gave him a kiss. I was so glad he felt the same way and I had no regrets.

Jenny slept with her father again the next night, before returning home to think about her future.

But, less than a week later, Samantha, then nine, accidentally revealed her mother’s secret, blurting out to Jenny’s mum: “Mummy’s happy now she’s slept with Grandpa.”

“That was when things got really bad,” recalls Jenny. “Mum confronted me and I confessed. She was horrified, so I left with the kids and headed back to Adelaide.”

'I couldn't share John'


Knowing her mum would not be able to keep her secret, Jenny was forced to tell her husband. He was disgusted and refused to see her again. Meanwhile John confessed their incestuous relationship to his shocked wife, Sarah*, 56. Incredibly, she suggested that Jenny came to live with them and share John with her.

“I think she was desperate to save her marriage,” says Jenny. “But I didn’t want
to share John, so I refused.”

When both John’s wife and Jenny’s family threatened to call the police and have Jenny’s children taken into care, the couple went on the run.

“We went to Western Australia where we wouldn’t be bothered by people,” says Jenny. “I was hopelessly in love, but we never mentioned to anyone that we were actually father and daughter.”

Within a year, Jenny discovered she was pregnant. But their son, Jackson, tragically died from a heart condition in 2001, four days after his birth.  “It wasn’t a genetic problem caused by a father and daughter having a child,” insists Jenny.

Heartbroken, the couple stayed on the run for five years, until Jenny fell pregnant again in 2006.
She says: “Having a daughter with my own father – and the risks that might bring – scared me. We didn’t tell the doctors we were related, but we had all the tests and knew she was going to be healthy.”

After Celeste, now 10 months, was born, they decided to return to South Australia to settle. The couple continued to keep their true relationship a secret from other people, but explained everything to their children, who accept their relationship.

But in October, the police tracked them down after John’s disgusted sister called the police. The couple were charged with two counts of incest and pleaded guilty in court. But they were still allowed to see each other because of the children, and will return to court for sentencing this month.  
Jenny says: “We realise that, legally, we won’t be able to have sex. But we’re soulmates and will never be separated."

And John says: “We’ll stay together as a family and I don’t think what we’re doing is morally wrong.
“My relationship with Jenny is the most fulfilling I’ve ever had – I love and adore her.”

How incredibly selfish these two are, they both knew they were related, it wasn't as if they had met and had a relationship before they knew they were father and daughter. I feel so sorry for the children, how can they poosibly believe the children accept the relationship? The poor kids will be screwed up for life by this. What a disgusting, selfish couple.

It's bound to blur the acceptable sexual boundaries for their children? Would their kids not think it would be acceptable to sleep together given the example their "parents" have set them or indeed have sex with their own children in years to come?

oh my good god ,have you watched last week a program on bbc about children born looking like an aliens ,why? because their parents were related. Poor children had to scrub their skin every day couple of times and put lots of cream and they wished that one day they will wake up and will look normal. You are sick woman and your father is missing something in his head . Probably his brais is size of the green pea .He should go to prison ,shame on your family.

all the legalitys aside, you had sex 'just feet away from your children' with a man you had recently introduced them to as your father and their grandfather, they'll be lucky if they don't grow up with a very warped view of relationships and sex.

This looks like a very loving and happy family and I wish them the best. To those who have left such disgusting and negative comments - grow up. These two ADULTS are CONSENTING and did not have any biological bonding as father and daughter. Society needs to stop judging others and get on with their own lives. I applaud this couple for having the courage to tell their story regardless of what all the narrow minded idiots out there think.

"Genetic Sexual Attraction" does not need to be acted on. Adults should be able to restrain themselves. The fact that they had one child that died should have at least stopped them from having another child together.
This is not a case of live and let live. There are four children (one now dead) that are impacted by this decision the "father and daughter" made. They should feel ashamed.
SARAHASHERSAY:If you have been a victim or perpatrator of incest get some counseling. Saying that they have done nothing wrong does not make it so.

all kinds of relations created by civilized human being and restrictions too. before civilization human being also lived similar to animal being that means, many of dads had babies with their kids and sons with mothers and sisters and bothers too.

In China the people strongly believe there should not marriage relation between the relative may be cousins or any nearest or far, at the same time in India marraige in the nearest relationship is accepted except own sister and same family name relations. some of them more civilized and some less. Anyway all these relations and restrictions and rules created by human being, not by nature. If nature created these rules then all animal being also might follow this, for example nature created the rule same specis can have sex, like DOG WITH DOG ONLY, PIG WITH PIG ONLY, PIG WONT TRY WITH DOG AND VICE VERSA. Thats Nature created rules the rest ourself created rules so, for myself I accept John and Jenny. Its not ashamed neither eliminate from the society.

This is gross! I'm 13 - 14 in a few days and i wouldnt never even dreaming of having sex with my Dad, that if just gross and wrong! AND you have a baby with him too! really,, i think your all a bit pathetic,, yes ok its not very nice to think about but at the end of the day they didnt grow up as father and daughter so they dont have that sort of relationship to build on. Having children together probably wasnt the best thing to do but if theyre happy and theyre children have accepted it then why cant you ! ?

they MET (KNOWING FULL WELL THEY WERE FATHER AND DAUGHTER) then STARTED A SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP..


Then decided to PRO-CREATE?

Their children are young and have proberly been forced to accept it, besides they most likely don't know any different.

Also by putting their story out there like they have .. Gives people (like us) the right to voice our opinions.

Look I in means agree with what you are doing. I believe it is wrong... Agianst God. But God didnt put me on this earth to judge. That is his job when you face him. I am sadden by what I read. And I pray for your children that they dont grow up to think this is ok. I guess my concern is when your child comes to you and asks " mommy you slept with your daddy, do I need to?" How do you explain that. I know you may not want or care to have it but I will be praying for you and your family.... Your children I feel are going to need a lot of prayers.

Have read through a few of these posts. First of all, its is stomach wrenching to think about it. As for the people who are saying they didnt grow up as father adn daughter - did you all miss out the part that sid she started her relationship with him at 15 years old.... is this not still a child to you? Does this not mean a young enough age to start a father daughter relationship? If you say no, then you are ignorant. You could, perhaps, say that the woman was confused, did not know what to think. BUT a MAN, her FATHER, has always known her as his daughter, never known her as anything else, he knew he left her, he knew she existed. Just because he never met her it makes no difference. A parent should have an undying love for his children but should NOT take them to bed. If she had been younger, you all know what EVERYONE would have branded him... why is this different?

I have never had a relationship with my father, in honesty I think he is a b***tard and it would make me physically sick if I even thought doing anything like that.

And well, does it not make you think, em straight away they had sex? I mean WTF.

For all the people that are wishing them well, get a grip, you are just as sick as them!!! Would you feel the same if it were mother and son? Brother and sister? I think not.

If they must live like that, then I hope for the kids sake that no-one ever finds out because if they do, you have already marked your childrens cards because them poor souls will be the ones suffering for your disgusting actions.

I have never heard of anything more terrible in my life, the reason it felt right was the bond you shared ( did you get that mixed up with the love ? ) sadly your children will pay dearly for your actions, it's something they will have to love with their entire lives. the fact you even came to Closer to be open about this shows your disregard for your children, it is not something to be proud of in fact you should both feel ashamed.
