Lotto lout Mikey Carroll

Lotto lout:'I was a thug - now I'm a film star'

Monday 20 October 2008

He’s made headlines as a violent thug, but now Lotto lout Mikey Carroll is hoping to turn over a new leaf as an actor – playing a violent thug!

Mikey, who won £9.7 million on the Lottery in 2002, earned a reputation as the self-styled “King of Chavs,” splashing his cash on drug- and booze-fuelled parties, trashing the mansion he bought and getting into trouble with the police.

But now the former binman hopes to put his troublesome past behind him after landing his first movie role, playing a tough guy in British thriller Jack Said. He’s already being compared to screen hard man Vinnie Jones – though Mikey shrugs off the comparison.

“I think I’ll be a natural,” says Mikey, 25, of Downham Market, Norfolk. “I’m looking forward to playing a villain – I was born to be an entertainer. Unlike Vinnie, I’m a proper thug with years of experience.

“I know people think badly of me because of my past, but I’m hoping my likeable side will come across on screen.”

With his burly, tattooed 20st frame and sovereign rings, Mikey seems made for the role as henchman to one of the crime bosses in the movie.

Mikey, who has piled on 2st over the past year, is set to spend most of his time on screen looking menacing and fighting.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” says Mikey, who starts filming in January. “I have a couple of fights and some funny scenes in the film, so it’s not too much of a stretch.”

Incredibly, he’s even hoping to carve out a career to rival the likes of his Hollywood idols, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. “I can see myself being a big star,” he insists.

Mikey – who in the past was jailed for affray and failing to attend drug treatment sessions and once got an ASBO for smashing up cars – will draw on his experiences as a bad boy for the gangster role.

“I was a thug in the past,” he admits. “So on screen, I’m just going to be my old self.”

Despite his reputation for violence, dad-of-one Mikey will still need to take lessons in fighting – so he can throw mock punches in the movie without hurting anyone. He’s also having private acting lessons.

And while he insists he’s still got plenty of money tucked away from his Lotto win, he expects to earn a substantial fee for his role.

“I really want a career in acting,” he says. “I’ve worked hard to stay out of trouble the last two years and this is a great opportunity to do something positive with my life.

“I want to be remembered as Mikey the actor, not Mikey the Lotto lout.”

Very suprised he has any money left, would of thought he would of blown it. Obviously not as daft as we thought he was. Well done for turning things around and realising soon enough that you were a wally!
Good luck.

Why shouldn't he have a career soph113?
Just because he won the lotto dosn't mean he shouldn't work.
Atleast he wants to work, and not sit at home in his large house pissing his winnings up the wall!
Get a grip woman,he's trying to turn his life around, and good look to him!

RE: Lotto lout:'I was a thug - now I'm a film star'

that is stupid
other people might be really good at acting and never done anything wrong and might be good people
and there himm with no acting experience and hes got a poast of doing horrible things like smashing up peoples cars
people deserve a second chance
but becoming rich and famous
i personally dont think he deserves that much.

Why the hell do people judge other people when they don't know anything about them. If people knew Michael they would see he is a fantastic bloke who will do anything for those he loves. I did not know Michael til about 4 years ago and I have not and will not judge him I go by what I see and know, I don't go by what I hear by the media or anyone else. Its not just Michael that gets put down it is his family as well, I get so fed up with this they are a loving family always have been and always will be.
