Woman dumps baby in plane toilet bin

A Philippine woman gave birth to a baby aboard a plane and left him in the toilet bin.

 

The baby boy was found by a security guard in a rubbish bag unloaded from a Gulf Air flight from Bahrain. The trash was said to have come from a toilet on the Gulf Air jet which flew to the Philippines from Saudi Arabia.

The 6lbs 9oz baby was found wrapped in tissue with the placenta still attached. Airport officials claimed when the baby was found, he had turned a bluish colour and would most likely have died within minutes had he not been found.

 

Lani Mercado, a member of the Philippine House of Representatives, said she met the mother, who told her that she had been raped by her employer while working as a maid in Qatar.

She had become pregnant and her employer’s wife had forced her to return home. She managed to conceal the pregnancy whilst boarding the plane but experienced labour pains and gave birth on board.

 

Mercado said the mother had dumped the baby because she was terrified of what her family would say. She had been shown a picture of the baby, temporarily named George Francis, and was said to be “very eager to see her baby.”

 

The 30-year-old woman was located on Wednesday in Apayao after investigators set out to find the person who had left a bloodstained seat on the plane.

 

She was then brought in for questioning and testing. Authorities are said to be keen to confirm that the woman in question is actually the baby’s mother.

 

Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman, who has custody of the baby, said: “We want to be very sure that we won't ascribe this act to the wrong person.

She added that the woman could face criminal charges for disposing of her child and that about 20 couples have offered to adopt the baby boy.

i can understand that she would feel un attached to the child if it was a rape child, but to dispose of it in a bin like he was a piece of rubbish is disgraceful. he didnt ask to be born the poor little thing. what a way to be brought into the world. i hope he finds a good home with parents that will love and care for him. she should never be allowed to see the child again. how could she sit out the rest of the flight knowing that he would have been dying in the bin? omg this is so upsetting

how did anyone not notice!!!! i mean come on did she not make a single wimpher while giving birth or did noone notice when she got up that the seat was covered in blood or go into the toilet afterwards? im pretty sure i would have noticed as well that the pregnant lady next to me had been in ther toilet for ages and sound some sort of alarm to check that she was ok! poor baby

i think this is vile and perthetic how no1 realised a baby had been born in a toilet she should be sentaned the poor thing might have died she would hae been a murderer!!!! evil ***** hope it grows up with a good life and the biological mother needs help sichologicaly

im sorry but i think that what u r all saying is so horrable, maybe she was scared. i can bet 100quid that you are all parents and at some point you were thinking of not having your child so how can u critize someone else

im not a mum im only 19 so you owe me £100! i didnt say anything about the mother my point was how did anyone not notice!!!!!!!! everyone who has a baby is scared not least so if she was raped but come on to dump a baby in an aeroplane toilet knowing it will probably die? there must have been a better option!

Yes even if you were thinking of not having your child (and many people never consider getting rid of their baby) it's another matter entirely to dump him in a bin and leave him to die! I do feel sorry for the poor woman if what she's saying is true but there's no excuse for her actions. There are many couples in the world who long for a child but are unable to have them and she just throws hers away like he was a piece of rubbish. It's disgraceful!

Hmm.....not quite as simple as that is it? This is a woman who comes from a completely different country and culture to ours. You haven't lived her life and you don't know what she was envisaging going back to had she gone back with a baby. It's all very well to sit in judgement but maybe if you had to live in her circumstances, you'd be a bit more understanding.

Yes, it's morally wrong and yes, it's an awful story but is this HER fault or is it the fault of the country or culture she comes from????

Tragic case. I agree though how the hell did no one notice!!
Can you imagine how scared she must have been? She obviously panicked and done the most awful thing she could have done. No matter how scared she was of her family finding out though, surely being a murderer is worse.
Any culture that would make a rape victim so scared she could do something as awful as this has got to be wrong.
I hope the little boy has a long and happy life with people who love him.

The poor woman was so scared that she wasn't thinking clearly, obviously. She was scared out of her right mind and she must have felt that leaving the baby here was the only thing she could do, in the hope that someone else would find it.

And I agree-how the HELL did no one notice! The airline must be pretty s**t!

Poor woman-and poor baby. I don't blame the woman-I blame her sick employer.

Let's hope that this woman can get help and that her baby will live a long and happy life with his new family.

The airlines must have pretty shit not to notice and yeh she might have been scared... but she got pregnant she new what the consquencies where so she must have an idea it was gonna be hard but things like that take time.....

i think it is appauling yes its awful she was raped and panicked but this clearly was not the option, to dump a newborn baby in a bin,and how the hell can nobody notice how strange. this is why culture causes problems too many opinions rules and restrictions, she should have gone to the police and they would have taken the baby straight into care , and on an aircraft what with the cabin pressure and birth pain im suprised the mother is still alive due to her situation also adding to the trauma of the inccident how awful...

normally i would have to say this was sick , she was raped . I know a few people who have never been the same after being raped . It shoulnt be her being fined but people near by i mean cummon , she was pregnant and now shes not? . she must have had blood on her , looked maybe a wee bit flatter not much , looked scared ? . this is horrible . Hope the baby finds a good home xx
