'My jealous wife killed our son’

Wrongly believing her husband had cheated on her, Jeanette Castro took revenge in the sickest way – by killing one of their sons and leaving the other fighting for his life.
She battered 15-year-old Pablito and Esteban, seven, with a hammer, then disguised the attack as a break-in gone wrong.
Devastated husband Pablo never suspected his wife, but in December 2009 Jeanette, 41, was jailed for 32 years for murder and attempted murder.
Pablo, a salesman, married hairdresser Jeanette in 1991.
“She was fun-loving and pretty,” remembers Pablo, 43, from Santiago, Chile.
“Life was good. Our eldest son Pablito was shy, and Esteban was more outgoing, but they were happy. The only drawback was Jeanette’s possessive streak.”
Although Pablo admits Jeanette’s jealousy caused rows, he insists she was never violent.
“Jeanette was a good mum, the boys adored her,” he says. “But her jealousy escalated.
“She was convinced I was seeing a colleague,” says Pablo. “I couldn’t change her mind.”
Then on 17 January 2008, events took a terrible turn.
“As we arrived home from work, Jeanette opened the front door and screamed. Pablito was on the couch covered in blood. He was alive but couldn’t speak.”
Realising there was no sign of Esteban, Pablo frantically searched the house.
“I found him in his room face down on the floor. He was ice-cold – I knew he was dead. It was the worst moment of my life.”
Jeanette stayed outside in a daze until a neighbour rang for an ambulance. “She stood by Pablito, but didn’t want to see Esteban,” says Pablo.
“It was strange she wasn’t crying,” he says, “but I believed she was being strong for me.”
Pablito survived, despite a brain injury that left him unable to move or speak for a year. He’s still re-learning to walk and read.
Police found no sign of forced entry, nothing stolen and no murder weapon. They questioned hundreds of people.
Over the next few months, Jeanette was cold and removed, which Pablo put down to grief.
Then in January 2009, she was charged with murder and attempted murder based on the evidence she’d arrived late for work on the day, had changed her clothes on arrival, and that the household hammer was gone.
“I was convinced the police were making her a scapegoat,” says Pablo. “I even visited her
in custody and consoled her.”
It wasn’t until 10 months after the attack that Pablo began to realise she might be guilty.
He explains: “She kept accusing people at random. And despite everything, her primary concern still seemed to be whether I was being faithful.”
Jeanette pleaded not guilty at her trial in December 2009, but she was sentenced to life. The prosecution had alleged that Jeannette was so consumed by jealousy she wanted to hurt her husband as much as possible.
Pablo is now focused on caring for his son. He says: “Pablito wants to see Jeanette in prison to find out why she did it – but I never want to see her again.”

what a horrible women! im glad she has got life. how can you want to kill your own sons to hurt your husband, i just dont understand what goes through peoples minds when they do things like this! i hope farther and son have a happier life without that evil women!!

Truly shocking. Can you imagine how terrified and confused those boys were, the one person who should be protecting them was trying to kill them in the most brutal way possible, horrific. The murdering bitch should burn in hell. She was their MOTHER for Gods sake!!!!
My heart goes out to Pablo and Pablito, I hope that somehow they can have a peaceful and happy life, and move on from this tragedy.
RIP little Esteban, wilth the other Angels now. xxx

Oh my god...what the fuck makes you want to kill your own children? I actually feel sick reading this story, there's nothing worse than hearing about a defensless child getting murdered. I hope she gets found out inside and I seriously hope she gets battered everyday by her inmates. Luckily enough, the other child didn't die, however he'll be seriously damaged after seeing his mother kill his brother and attempting to kill him. Like n.s said, I hope shes burning in hell.

when i read this story it made me feel disgusted,i couldnt believe a mother could do that to there own flession blood, the children deserved the best not some jealous mother who was over obsessive of her husband. she deserves to stay in prison forever...all people like this should'! its wrong!:/ i cant imagine how much pain they were going through when she continously hit them with the hammer...i would just like to say...i send alll my love to these angels, they are blessed in everyones hearts! Rest In Peace Esteban, and i hope all the best for the beautiful boy Pablito...xxxx

I never ever can understand why they kill the children - it is the most vile vicious thing they can think of to get revenge. But why do the children have to suffer they are innocent and those poor boys didn't even see it coming, it was cold and calculating and brutal it's not as though she was mentally ill - just jealous! Im glad she got the rest of her life in prison - they should make her put pictures of her family on her cell walls so she can look at what she destroyed every day of her miserable life.
