72-year-old dad of 12 kids to be father again

Wednesday 02 June 2010

It was confirmed yesterday that Richard Roden, 72, and his wife Lisa, 26, are expecting a baby, just a year after having twins Ruby and Emily last February.

This baby will be the 13th child for three times married Richard and was conceived naturally without IVF.

Richard, a retired welder said yesterday: 'I'm overjoyed. I always said I'd have another. Being a dad at 72 is definitely more tiring than in my twenties, but it gives me such a lot of pleasure.'

Although Richard is often mistaken for the twins' grandfather and has been called a 'cradle snatcher' for being with a woman 46 years his junior, his loyal missus has stuck up for him, saying: 'Richard and I are soulmates.

'He changes their nappies like an expert - and he will be just as good a dad this time around.'

Richard said: 'I haven't made a will out yet, but everything I've got will go to Lisa and the children.'

Last October when the couple announced news of their twins being born, Richard boasted of enjoying a 'fulfilling sex life' and put his virility down to eating home-grown vegetables.

RE: 72-year-old dad of 12 kids to be father again

can't beleive how selfish some people can be these poor children will be lucky if their dad manages to celebrate their 16th birthdays...I've got no idea why he seems so proud of his sex life and the fact he's still fertile- its barely an acheievement!!
Also as a retired welder with 13 children...it does make me wonder what exactly he can give in his will- i hope for the childrens sake he's got a 6figure sum hidden away.
if they beleieve they are soul mates i hope there happy together but its just a shame to bring children into the world where they are going to lose their father so early and he is more 'tired' then the average dad

To have a baby at 72...when the average life expectancy is 77.5 (info got from http://www.statistics.gov.uk/ ) means they are statistically likely to loose their dad at 5 and a half years old........no child should have to loose a parent in an accident or something, its terrible, but when its actually planned like that is utterly selfish on their part...

i agree with the comment about it not being fair to do with his life expectancy but disagree abot the will and money i think that as long as you love your child and encourage them and show affection then a six figure sum isn't important. but i get it that to support them you need money and he has got 13 kids.

RE: 72-year-old dad of 12 kids to be father again

My husband is the youngest of 13, they did suffer financially when he was growing up, but no 6 figure sum could help when a parent dies.

However, my husband also lost his dad at an age that he shouldn't have, and has siblings old enough to be his parents - yet his dad was much much younger than this guy.

It is selfish, and his wife isn't going to realise fully till that day comes.

A DAD AT 72 . is he going to take his kids to school in a zipper thats if hes even alive . At 72 you are ment to be relaxing not making other kids to women 46 years your blooming younger . Its discusting the fact he knows he wont see his kids 10th birthday . He knows he is going to die in a few years . Its stupid and selfish . No child should be made to go through a parent dying !! he knows hes doing that !

Horrible! The poor children are going to be growing without a Father. How can people be so selfish, it really is beyond me. No Child should have to go through losing a parent, but for the parent to actively choose for this to happen is terrible.
