A pregnant woman has been spared jail after making her second false rape allegation.
Gemma Scoones, of Horden, Co. Durham, was let off because she is heavily pregnant.
She appeared in the dock at Durham Crown Court on Friday to be sentenced for perverting the course of justice.
Her most recent hearing followed a 12 month jail sentence imposed last year, after she made her first false rape claim against estranged husband Anthony Scoones.
He had been held by police but was later released when Gemma admitted she had made the story up.
No one was arrested following her second false allegation, but she was landed with a 12-month sentence suspended for two years.
She was also given a Probation Service supervision order.
Gemma had told an ambulance crew that she had been raped on April 18 this year – a story she later repeated, despite having changed her story in hospital.
She claimed string had been used in the attack, but when police searched her home they were unable to find the alleged evidence.
Judge Michael Taylor slammed her claim as “atrocious” – and told her she deserved an immediate custodial sentence.
He said: “What saves you from immediate sentence is that I see you are heavily pregnant and it would not be fair on your child to be born in prison.”

so does this mean that she is going to jail but when her baby is born? i think its disgusting when people cry rape when its not true, not only does it destroy the lives of the falsely accused but its an insult to anyone who has been truly raped! seeing as people generally think guilty until proven innocent it can have devestating effects on the men beinf accused of rape, they may loose frineds, family, have to endure public abuse and could even loose out on their career as any employer may be able to see that they were accused of rape whether theye were guilty or not, so i do think this is worthy of prison to be honest and to do it twice as well! has she never heard of the boy who cried wolf story!

Why do so many women seem to be pregnant when they appear in court. It's like they think the child will prevent them from going to jail - which seems to have had the desired affect in this case.

she is making a mockery of all women who have been raped, which is as much a crime. it is because of women like this that real cases are not reported because the women are scared of not being believed. she needs to be locked up and left to rot...

Disgusting, she should be ashamed. It's hard enough for rape victims to make a case stick, without idiots like this
woman making it up. Also agree about women turing up to court pregnant, very convenient. I was on jury service last year, and the same thing happened on the case I was on, husband and wife team, but what a shock, she was heavily
pregnant, so although she was found as gulity as her husband she didn't a cusdodial sentance. Its a joke.

I think it is horrid that someone will go around blaming people for rape and trying to get them locked up when there is real perverts out there that need to be locked up and get away with it... it makes me feel sick and if she is raped no one is going to believe her because of how many times she has lied..... I now someone who goes round blaming people for rape and now no-one will be in a room with her on there own in case she goes and tells the police they raped her i think it sick.....
