Weird job titles
Thursday 01 April 2010
A council raised eyebrows by giving their lifeguards the job title of “Wet Leisure Assistant”.
According to one student who landed a holiday job there, it was given to attendants at local authority baths and was just one of the many entries sent into the BBC when they appealed for silly job titles.
Call us old fashioned but we’d rather our lifeguards were called lifeguards as opposed to something that sounds like a character from a Carry On film!
The other ridiculous job titles sent in included:
- Visual Clearance Engineer (Window Cleaner).
- Stock Replenishment Adviser (Shelf stacker).
- Technical Horticultural Maintenance Officer (Gardener).
- Crockery Cleansing Operative (Washer Up).
So why the strange job titles? Perhaps companies are trying to find a new fangled way to sell otherwise unappealing jobs to potential applicants. In that case we decided to have a bit of fun and come up with a few job titles of our own:
Infant Care Engineer (Babysitter)
Legal Intoxicant Mixer and Distributor (Barman)
Apparel and Merchandise Advisor and Distributor (Clothes Shop Assistant)
So next time you send your CV off for a swanky job title, make sure you check the positions criteria.

Play along at home, what fancy job title would you give yourself?

RE: Weird job titles
well i think the 4 jobs listed are good job titles because i would rather have those jobs listed on my resume than their real titles thats for sure and the only one i think proposterous is Wet Leisure Assistant which sounds rather nautical myself!!
