Ann Widdecombe finally booted off Strictly
Monday 06 December 2010
She has been likened to 'Big Bird' and a 'Dalek in drag' but despite these criticisms, Ann Widdecombe has managed to stay in the Strictly Come Dancing competition for ten weeks, proving all her haters wrong.
But her reign finally came to an end last night after she lost out to Eastenders actor Scott Maslen after finding herself in the bottom two. The 62-year-old ex-politician declared she had the 'best time of her life' dancing with Anton Du Beke.
Although Ann, a self confessed 'dancing elephant' performed terribly each week, viewers kept voting her in down to her entertaining factor - but it looked as though her popularity wasn't enough to see her into the semi-finals next week.
She was awarded a mere 14 points out of forty for her American Smooth routine inspired by the musical Hello Dolly! whilst being described as a 'Dalek in drag' after Anton lifted her several times during the routine.
Miss Widdecombe said last night that she was please she had encouraged others to try their hand at dancing, especially the older generation.
'I know that I was not the best dancer in the competition but I know that my doing it has made other people realise they can. She told the Mail.
'I certainly feel that it has been a life-enhancing force and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.'
'People keep coming up to me - and often it is ladies of a particular age - who say that I have made them feel like they can give it a try.'
She told viewers: ‘I feel like I have had a jolly good time. This day was going to come, it has come, and they are delighted (the judges). It has been tremendous. Time of my life, it’s been fantastic!’
Later she said: ‘I’m not too upset, I have had ten very good weeks.
‘If you had told me at the beginning that I would last two and a half months – I would have laughed at you.'
‘I only have positive memories of all this. I haven’t had a single bad experience. I am glad it was a sudden death though – I wouldn’t like to have lingered on in the bottom two for weeks.’
What do you think? Are you glad Ann was finally booted off, or did you want to see her on your screens some more?
