BarBara Windsor Leaving the square

Barbara Windsor quits Eastenders

Thursday 29 October 2009

Noooo! Peggy Mitchell is set to pull her last pint, as Barbara Windsor has announced that she's leaving Eastenders.

The 72-year-old actress decided to call it a day after a 15-year stint on the show, which saw her character go through three marriages, battle breast cancer, and live through the deaths of many, many loved ones on Albert Square.

Barbara said in a statement: "I'll be so sad to leave Peggy behind - she's such a wonderful character to play."

This won't mean the end of Peggy Mitchell, though, as the producers of the show hope that she'll be back for a few guest appearances in the future.

Before she took on the Queen Vic, Barbara was best known for her roles in the Carry On films, which saw her get into numerous lewd situations in the Sixties and Seventies.

She's yet to shed light on her next career move, saying that she wants to spend time with her family without worrying about work commitments.

'I'm looking forward to the future and I suppose when all's said and done I should spend a bit more time with my old man, as he's not getting any younger!'

Walford won't be the same without you, Barbara!

Do you watch Eastenders? Will you miss Peggy?

Aww it wont be the same without her! I can remember many moons ago when she was a guest on the Big Breakfeast (showing my age now) & Denise & Jonny said to her why don't you join Eastenders, you'd be wicked!...& at the time i thought,as if!! : ) 7 they started this pitition.
She really is a brilliant actress, and eastenders wont be the same without her,but like she says, she wants to spend time with her hubby, she's worked her socks off & deserves a well earned rest!

RE: Barbara Windsor quits Eastenders

At 72 and after all she's been through in her life I'd say Barbara deserves a rest lol! As you say though clarabella Eastenders just won't be the same without her - personally I think it's gone down hill anyway and bringing back all these old characters doesn't really jive, hey that's just me though I'm sure millions love it lol!!
Good luck to Babs, perhaps she'll get to spend some time with her family now and enjoy life a bit more!!
