Britney scores a Number One
Monday 19 October 2009
Just 18 months ago, we thought her career was hitting the rocks, but Britney Spears has become the first artist in three years to enter the US charts at Number One.
A whopping 255,000 people downloaded Britney's new single 3 in a week.
Usually, pop songs on the American Billboard Top 100 enter somewhere near the bottom and climb up as radio play increases and encourages more downloads.
However, Britney's new number has proved so popular that she rocketed to the top of the charts - the first singer to hit the top since 2006, and the first non-reality show star to do so since 1998.
The video for 3, which reportedly contains allusions to a threesome, features Britney in several raunchy scenarios, which may have spurned the song's sales further.
Nice one, Brit!
