Chantelle Houghton breaks down on TV, admitting she's going through 'hell'

Friday 26 October 2012

Chantelle Houghton opens up about the strains of being a single mum on This Morning as she admits she’s going ‘through hell.’

The reality TV star showed the true stress of the last few weeks since splitting with fiancé Alex Reid  as she broke down live on television this morning.

Chantelle – who was previously married to The Ordinary Boys singer Samuel Preston – opened up about being a single mum and her fractured relationship with Alex. Speaking to presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, she admitted that she is going through ‘hell’ as she struggles in the wake of the split.

The 29-year-old announced that she was pregnant with her first child in November after cagefighter Alex proposed to her on Irish TV the month before

The couple said that they were ‘over the moon’ at the time, and on June 17th 2012 they welcomed their daughter Dolly into the world. Cracks began to show however, and in September the couple confirmed their split.

Chantelle is now a single mother to the couple’s four-month-old baby Dolly, and explained that every night is a ‘horrible reminder’ of the fact that she will have to bring up her daughter on her own.

She said: ‘It’s like the saying, I’ve been to hell and back and I feel like I’m in that hell now… I know I can see the future and I will be happy again, but right now, things are really tough.

'I never appreciated what it was like to be a single mum before, and I'm in a very fortunate situation that I don't have money worries. But it's hard going through a break-up and being mum as well - it's really tough.’

'Obviously during the night its like a horrible reminder when she wakes up. And I am there on my own but you know, its my life and I've just got to get on with it.'

And although the former Big Brother star said that there was ‘no way back’ for her and Alex, she insists that she still wants the 38-year-old to be a part of Dolly’s life

.

'Whatever happened between me and Alex, that's between me and him. We're sorting out arrangements for him to come twice a week to see her’ she said before trying to explain what went wrong in their relationship.

'I was really happy and it was everything I wanted, especially when I found out that I was pregnant. We were over the moon and we were so happy and then stuff happened and it just went from bad to worse’ she said.

'I tried to stick at it because I always wanted a mum and dad and a family. But there came a point where it had to end.'

‘But there things about Alex that I didn't know when I first met him, and he wasn't the person I met. He didn't turn into the person that I met in the beginning. He was a different person.’

When asked if she was open to a new relationship the star shook her head assuring the presenters that men are the least of her priorities.

'I've got no interest in meeting anyone, that's the last thing I want to do. I just want to sort this mess out.'
