Cheryl gets the thumbs up from US TV boss
Thursday 13 January 2011
There was always the tiny problem of Cheryl's strong Geordie accent that was standing in the way of her US success, but it looks as though that problem is no more as she gets the thumbs up from TV bosses.
Peter Rice, who heads up the entertainment department for the Fox network that will host the US version of X Factor, said: 'If Cheryl was to be on the show, I think she’s proved that she’s a terrific judge.'
He also said that he reckoned her chemistry with Simon Cowell would ensure she was a hit in the States, saying: 'She has wonderful chemistry with Simon.'
It has been known that our American chums find it a little hard to understand our British accents, and so it was always a worry that Cheryl's strong Newcastle roots would prove difficult for audiences to decifer but Mr Rice didn't even mention it as a consideration.
Although, this is great news for the Geordie lass, the judging panel has yet to be confirmed, despite rumours that she has already landed a £3m deal. Mr Rice said:
'There’s great speculation. I think Simon is still meeting and trying to find the right mixture ...It’ll be four judges as it is in England - it’s two men, two women… one of which will be Simon.'
He added: 'Simon’s going to come to us and he’s going to say, "This is who I would like the judges to be," and we’ll have a conversation about it.'
Well, we can't imagine Simon fighting over the salute gesture with anyone else...
