Cheryl Cole admits: ‘I’ll change to keep Tre’

Tuesday 27 November 2012

Despite vowing never to speak of her relationships in public after her messy divorce from love-rat Ashley, Cheryl Cole opened up about her new romance last week during a TV show promoting her solo career.

Gushing about her “chemistry” and “connection” with dancer Tre Holloway – who she’s known for two years and dated since June – the couple kissed and cuddled on the Access All Areas documentary, filmed during her solo tour in September.

As Closer reported last month, the couple have recently struggled behind the scenes, with Cheryl even telling pals she had “doubts” about Tre, after they had a string of rows. The pair allegedly argued in a nightclub after Tre was reportedly dancing with another dancer on a night out – although there’s no suggestion anything happened.

But sources say after a showdown with mum Joan, over Cheryl putting her career first, Cheryl’s now determined to make things work. Apparently, she’s told pals: “I’ve been selfish – I’ll change to keep Tre.”

A source says: “The pair are adjusting to juggling their careers, especially with the Girls Aloud reunion tour kicking in. Cheryl worries if she doesn’t make an effort now, she could find herself alone.”

The singer, 29, disclosed recently she was close to a nervous breakdown, following her split from footballer ex-husband Ashley and sources say his reported serial cheating left her with trust issues.

She even said two months ago, while promoting her autobiography: “I’ve been to hell and back… I won’t ever talk about a relationship in public again.”

But Cheryl clearly had a change of heart – and on the show, she said: “There’s a stronger connection with Tre than with any other dancer … to have that relationship is rare.”

The couple were extremely tactile on camera and Cheryl made no secret of her concern when Tre, 28, injured his leg, saying: “It’s like me losing my voice – what would I do? He’s upset with himself as I asked him not to back flip, about five times.”

Before the show aired, Cheryl Tweeted that she “at times forgot myself”and added: “I cringed watching it…”

But insiders say her mum Joan wasn’t impressed with her being so open and warned her not to let work get in the way. And pals say Cheryl has now reassessed her approach to her relationship.

A source says: “Joan told Cheryl she had to make more time for Tre. She also thought it had been a mistake for Cheryl to open up and talk about her relationship in public and to let the cameras in on that aspect of her life – especially after what happened with Ashley. Tre is quite private and Joan didn’t think it was fair on him. Cheryl wasn’t happy and accused Joan of ‘meddling’ and not understanding her. But, after a few days, she realised her mum had a point. It was a reality check.”

Now pals say Cheryl’s still struggling to shake off her insecurities. A source says: “Cheryl told pals she knew she wasn’t the easiest person to date and she’d been selfish. She wasn’t used to someone like Tre, who tells her straight when he’s annoyed. She said she worries about being vulnerable, but she said she’d let him be the strong one and look after her.

“Her pals say Cheryl is always questioning whether it’s right and whether they think Tre loves her, but she’s vowed to make it work. Part of her feels that Tre could even be her last chance at love. She admits she had to change, but they’re in love, back on track and looking forward to spending Christmas together.”
