Coronation Street

Death on the Corrie streets

Friday 10 December 2010

We love a bit of Corrie here in the Closer HQ, but this week our Coronation Street related banter was considerably higher as we prepared ourselves for the 50th anniversary live episode.

What can only be described as a non-stop, action-packed hour, our admiration goes out to the Corrie cast who acted their little hearts out in an almost flawless performance.

Continuing from Monday night’s shock explosion, last night’s hour long live episode commemorated the shows 50 years on the box with an evening that Weatherfield will never forget. In a show that transfixed some 15million viewers, we witnessed marriage, death and new life and My God did we enjoy it.

There were a few hiccups along the way, which we think, as you’re gossip-go-to, we should point out (although – we have to point out that we were very impressed with the acting skills otherwise!)

One mini mistake was someone referring to Fiz’s newborn baby as a boy, noted by Diana Vickers who took to her Twitter account, saying 'ooop mistake in corrie .. Someone said the baby was a boy ! INCORRECT'.'

Another fluster was disabled Izzy Armstrong spotted standing up from her wheelchair - which she has not been noted throughout the show previously, and Sally Webster failing to wear a hard hat throughout her scenes, despite being told she must.

However, the live show got a big thumbs up from soap fans around the UK who took to their thousands to praise the cast on social networking sites.

The episode began with the devastating news that Ashley Peacock – one of the long-term characters – had been killed as the remains of The Joinery nightclub collapsed on top of him. Sally Webster was seen running to the Corner Shop to hold the hand of Molly Dobbs, who was dying – Molly then goes on to confess to Sally the devastating news that she’s had an affair with her husband and given birth to his son.

Fiz gave birth to a baby girl, who was rushed to intensive care as she was born early as Fiz fell during the explosion.

More drama unfolded when Peter Barlow was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries – a scene showed Leanne Battersby getting married to the unconscious Peter as Doctors told her to prepare for the worst.

In true soap tradition, as the final credits rolled, Peter’s life-support machine began to beep before flat-lining. With a spectacular cliff-hanger in tow, millions of viewers were left in awe at the sheer shockers that dominated the show…

Hometime can’t come quick enough for us! Did Peter survive??

What did you think of the show? Did you even watch it?

i saw izzy standing up lastnight but thought she maybe had one of those chairs that raises her to the almmost standing position.

hope peter doesnt die but he has been kissed by black widow carla so his chance of dying is very strong :( would love to see peter lianne and simon become a little family as carla and nick watch on broken hearted from the outside :)

RE: Death on the Corrie streets

2 mistakes in your article:
Izzy IS able to pull herself to standing. Have seen her doing so before to get in and out of her wheelchair.
Sally did not know about Kevin & Molly's affair before she went to hold Molly's hand.

Maybe you should check for your own mistakes before criticising others'?

And another mistake....

"Molly then goes on to confess to Sally the devastating news that she’s had an affair with her husband and given birth to his daughter."

Correct me if i'm wrong but Molly gave birth to a BOY whom they named Jack!

Wow, clearly some Coronation Street enthusiasts in the house! I have never seen Izzy stand up before because i noticed that and thought it was a mistake too...

'Maybe you should check for your own mistakes before criticising others'?

Alright, calm it!

RE: Death on the Corrie streets

why do people always pick out the negatives? there was only a handful of mistakes in a whole hours worth of acting, i dont watch corrie but everyone said that the actors were in difficult conditions completely live which i think is commendable! who cares about a couple of slips of the tounge they had a lot to concentrate on!

I didn't notice any mistakes in the live show. Tbh there was so much going on. I thought they all done really well, the acting at the moment in this show is blinding. Poor old Ashley bless him. I hope Rita and Peter don't die! both
