‘I’m going to be a single mum!’
Wednesday 06 June 2012
Their rocky relationship looked like it was all but over two weeks ago, when Chantelle Houghton moved out of the home she shares with fiancé Alex Reid after reportedly finding him cross-dressing as alter-ego “Roxanne.”
Now the pregnant reality star, who’s due to give birth to a baby girl next week, is telling pals she fears their fragile romance won’t survive and she is preparing for life as a single mum.
Although Chantelle, 28, moved back into Alex’s Essex home days after the incident, pals say they’re putting on a “happy couple front” until their daughter is born.
Sources close to Chantelle say she was left traumatised two weeks ago, after walking in on Alex, 39, dressed as Roxanne, surrounded by sex toys and indulging in sexual fantasies. The star moved out into her unfurnished flat and later Tweeted: “To confirm, I did take time out from Alex and stay at my flat last week after an almighty row. Last couple days been trying to sort things.”
Alex denied the cross-dressing claims in a jumbled statement that read: “Whoever created this story must be high on something themselves, and their PR for risking their professional reputation to release such nonsense. Alex and his management are utterly bemused by the shocking bad lies being rumoured about his private life and surprisingly can confirm they are untrue.”
A week after the incident, Chantelle – who’s been dating Alex since May 2011 – moved back in and sources close to the star say she didn’t want to go through the stress and trauma of a split so close to the birth.
A source says: “Chantelle is being really brave. She’s told pals: ‘I think I’m going to be a single mum and I’ll be good at it. I know I can look after my daughter. And I know that even if it doesn’t work out with me and Alex, he’ll always be in her life.’
“She’s only thinking about the baby now and doesn’t appear to see her future as being with Alex. This might change once the baby is born but it’s looking unlikely.”
Meanwhile, a source close to Alex reveals: “Alex knows the relationship is a ticking time bomb and is grovelling to try to win her back.”
Chantelle – who was rushed to hospital in March with an elevated heart rate and put on a monitor for 24 hours, then collapsed just two days later – recently said she was terrified she could die during labour after discovering she has a heart condition.
The former Celebrity Big Brother winner – whose heartbeat was recently measured at 108 beats per minute, when the normal rate for a healthy adult is 60 to 80 – said: “I worry that something will happen to me, that the baby will be born and I won’t be here. The doctors said that when you’re in labour your heart goes up even more and so I’m terrified.”
Now pals say Chantelle – who was devastated in March when she discovered that Alex had been Tweeting his ex-wife Jordan’s protégé Amy Willerton – is trying to limit the stress in her life.
A pal says: “Chantelle is spending time with friends and family. She doesn’t know if there’s a future with Alex and, unless things dramatically change, it looks like they will split.”

RE: ‘I’m going to be a single mum!’
I know celebrities put themselves out there for the whole world to see and comment, but i really think in the case of Chantelle and Alex its getting a bit out of hand. Every person who has gone through a pregnancy or supported a partner through it knows that it is the most testing time for any relationship. Pregnancy is very hard work and it affects your relationship quite negatively for the most part. What they are going through is what every pregnant couple go through... once the baby arrives you usually get a really nice period that feels like a sigh of relief that its all over and done with and you re-connect with your partner as you both dote on your new baby. Chantelle should stay out of the spotlight for now because she only has a few pregnancy weeks left. I'd try to keep things a bit more private from now on because once the baby arrives it will be another period of adjustment for both she and Alex and it will be made 100% more difficult if its played out on the front pages of magazines. Good luck to them both but for now they should try to look after each other and perhaps stay out of the press.

She needs to know that sometimes it's better to be a single mum than in a bad relationship. I learnt that a bit too late
