Heidi: “You wouldn’t catch me in hotpants."
Thursday 23 June 2011
She’s the longest-running member of the Sugababes and seems to have it all – including an adoring fiancé, MTV and Xfm presenter Dave Berry. But even though she’s transformed from blonde babe to ravishing redhead in a promotional stint for Gallo wine, Heidi Range, 28, tells Closer that she’s determined to go back to her roots for her big walk down the aisle.
Wow! That’s a brave new look. What made you decide to go red for Gallo chilled red wine?
It was great fun, I’ve always loved red hair anyway, and I really enjoyed it. It’s nice to do something different. It’s bright – but not as bright as Rihanna’s!
Didn’t you feel like keeping it red for the wedding?
Erm…no – I enjoyed it, but I always end up going blonde again when I try different colours! I do experiment more when I’m working in the band, and I like to try new things – but I also know what suits me. You wouldn’t get me in a pair of hotpants or Jessie J’s leotards – even though she looks great in them!
So how are the wedding plans going?
We’re still looking at venues at the moment. We’re working our way through a list of places but it takes so long – you find somewhere you think is great, and then there’s something that you don’t like about it. But there’s no rush – when we find the right place, we’ll book it.
Does that mean you haven’t yet set a date?
No! I think I’d like a winter wedding but it’s whether it’s this winter or next winter. I’m not sure. I think I’d be stressed if I tried to plan a summer wedding and then it rained.
Do you want something traditional, or contemporary?
I want it to be personal to us, so there’ll be traditional things, but also parts that represent things that we like. I don’t want it to be too big, but I think everyone says that, and then it snowballs!
Is it true that Vera Wang offered to design your wedding dress?
Well, we were in Barbados the Christmas before last doing a gig, and her daughter said to me that her mum had said she’d love to do our dresses! It’s funny because I flew home the next day and that’s when Dave proposed!
What would your dream dress look like?
I’m one of those girls who’s always known the exact style I want. I’ve seen one that I think is the one. But I still want to try some more because you panic that there might be something better out there! [laughs]
Who’s going to organise your hen night?
I’ve got three bridesmaids – my sister, Dave’s sister, and my best friend, so they’ll sort it out for me. I love surprises.
Are you going to step up your workout routine for the big day?
I’ll probably up my workouts, I think most brides do the same. I go to the gym about four times a week now, but I will go more often once the wedding’s booked.
Do you watch your diet?
Yeah. I mean, I do, I’m always trying to be good, but I do have days off as well! I enjoy having a few wines with friends, you’ve got to give yourself a break sometimes! But I do try to be careful most of the time.
Would you ever resort to Botox or plastic surgery?
No, I mean, I’m only 27! I don’t really need anything and haven’t thought about it!
What’s your daily beauty routine?
I love getting a facial. Not all the time, but now and again. I love being pampered – I love going and getting my nails done, girly stuff. A hen spa weekend would be nice!
You joined the Sugababes in 2001. How are you going to celebrate your 10-year anniversary?
That makes me feel old! I’ve grown up a lot since then – but it feels like it’s always been part of me and my adult life.
What does the future hold for the Sugababes?
We’re recording our eighth album at the moment – and hopefully we’ll be bringing the single out in the next couple of months. It’s exciting and we love it.
Are you and the girls [Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen] close?
When we go away the girls all stay in my room. It was never decided that way, we all have our own rooms, but every time we go away they end up staying with me. We just chat all night! When we’re not working, we do our own things, like spending time with our boyfriends and seeing our friends and family. But when we see each other, we’re just … well we just gossip!
What do you like doing most with Dave?
Our favourite thing is to sit at home. We love to just be in our home. He is really romantic, which is nice because I’m a hopeless romantic. I was in tears when I watched the Royal Wedding! I started crying as soon as Will and Harry walked out!
Do you want children one day?
Oh definitely, we want them, but not for a while. We’re still young, so we have no rush yet.
