Exclusive Jedward Interview
Thursday 14 October 2010
They boast a number one hit, a hilarious television show, a growing world-wide fan-base, and ridiculously big quiffs; yes…it seems like Jedward really have the world at their feet….or maybe stored in their hair.
The troublesome two-some really are riding the fame train at the moment and loving their time in the spotlight. And with Jedward mania in full swing it doesn’t look like that light will go out any-time soon.
We were lucky enough to meet up with the energetic twins, John and Edward, (who’s who, we still don’t know) to talk X Factor, Nintendo and what lies ahead. . . .
They are like the marmite of the pop world; but love them or hate them, there’s no denying the twins from Dublin have taken over the headlines and certainly got people talking, but insisted, “We love it! We love all our fans and we’re so thankful to them.”
Dressed in slick silver blazers and skinny jeans, their new role as ambassadors for Nintendo gets the boys excited (if they can get any more excited than normal) as they start to play with their DS consoles.
Edward starts: “It’s so cool. For the adverts we’re gonna be getting dressed up and taken to a castle and it’s gonna be the best advert ever.”
Like normal 18-year-old’s, the boys grew up playing computer games, however, we found it strange there didn’t seem to be much sibling rivalry, as Edward explained: “When we’re playing we get really really competitive together, but as a team, because we’re like in the gaming world against other people like when we play online, we team up.”
And we couldn’t help but think that the pair playing computer games must have spelt trouble…. it turned out we were right, John laughed: “Our gaming gets really full on sometimes and we get really into it and we always end up breaking stuff.”
The Nintendo adverts, due to be screened in the run-up to Christmas, are the latest project that the mischievous due are involved with, since finding fame on last year’s X Factor. And as this year’s competition grips the nation, we couldn’t resist getting our mitts in and finding out their predictions . . .
John started, “We actually missed the first show because we were performing at the Wii party at Chessington World of Adventures. It was so cool, we had a dance off with Twist and Pulse and we won!
“But we watched the performances on YouTube and we think Wagner is so cool and everyone should just let him win it because that would be amazing.” Of course boys!
“We really like Mary, we thought she did really well. She is the most genuine act in the show, and she is from Ireland.”
And of course a new year on X Factor has brought a new format to the show in the form of the Wildcard, it’s something that the boys are not too sure about though, explaining: “I think that in a way it’s alright, because it gives other people a second chance, but there are just so many people on it.”
And despite a hectic schedule the boys found time to comfort reject Nicolo Festa saying: “We just said to him its cool, and it’s not too much of a big deal and just not to worry. We thought his performance was really good actually and think it’s their loss.”
After all, the boys didn’t win the show and look at them now!

But after finding fame on the programme, we wondered what filming their own show was like. Edward said: “It was really fun. People normally record TV shows in like 6 months but we did it in four days. It was really cool but in the house we were living in, things just seemed to break by themselves.” Sure they did!
So what’s lined up after the Nintendo shoots? We know you’re all dying to find out! Well the boys plan to take a trip across the pond and try their luck in the States as John said, “We want to do like Jedward: Let Loose in America. It’s definitely happening”
We’re thinking the same…are America ready for the duo? And will they grab the same attention as they do here? After having a cheeky pop at my choice of footwear for their lack of support (I was wearing espadrilles and he, gold boots with diamonds on…I know) Edward said: “Everyone always says ‘break America’, but we see it as a process.
“We’re gonna start building solid foundations and start off small, then go up step-by-step. We know that we’re going to have to do lots of things and we can’t just expect it to happen just like that. A lot of people go expecting to make it, but it doesn’t work like that.”
To top that off, the twins are also working on new material for a new album and Edward said: “We’re working on a new single at the moment and we’re hoping we’re going to perform on the X Factor, we think for Halloween. We are going to be doing some original music and then maybe a few covers as well.
“It’s been mad, we have done something every day. We just want to do more and more.”
Blimey talk about workaholics … eh?
