Jenni Falconer: My secret life...
Wednesday 13 June 2012
National Lottery presenter Jenni Falconer, 36, gives Closer a peek into family life with her actor husband James Midgley, 37, and their eight-month-old daughter, Ella Rose
No day is ever the same for me…
My job as a presenter means every day is different but, since becoming a mum, I’ve had to try to develop some sort of routine. I’m woken up every morning at 7am by my daughter, Ella Rose, wailing over the baby monitor. I like to say she’s singing, but I’m not sure others would agree…
My husband and I juggle the morning duties.
One of us will get Ella’s milk ready, while the other takes the dogs for a walk. Once Ella’s eating breakfast, I get a nice cuppa. I like a tea fix in the morning.
I always leave the house fully equipped…
I have two changing bags for Ella – one’s for going to the shops and the other is loaded with everything and can go anywhere! Since becoming a mum, my main concern when getting ready and leaving the house is Ella – make-up isn’t an issue now!
I accept that my house can be messy.
Before I became a mother, I wanted my house to be as immaculate as a show home. But you’ve got to learn to accept that babies can mean mess.
I’m a terrible cook…
I don’t get excited about cooking, because I don’t find any part of it enjoyable. I had a dinner party at New Year and our friends, who own an Italian restaurant, prepared the food. When the guests tucked in, they knew straight away I didn’t have anything to do with it!
I don’t diet.
If I want to eat something with carbs, then I let myself! I think healthy and balanced meals are key to staying in shape. Depriving yourself makes no sense, and I can’t say no to a biscuit with my tea.
Once Ella goes to sleep, my husband and I enjoy some downtime together…
But it can be short-lived, as it’s also the only time I find to do the chores. So no sooner have I sat down, I’m doing a load of washing and getting everything ready for the next day!
