Jessica Simpson drank cow urine in the name of beauty!

After coming under media scrutiny last year for having put on a few pounds, the singer has decided to investigate the obsession with looking good on her new show The Price of Beauty.

The pretty singer goes from country to country with her hair stylist Ken Paves and former assistant Cacee Cobb to see how people try to match what their society thinks is beautiful.

Jessica talked about her own insecurities after she made headlines for putting on weight: "You can't walk anywhere without thinking, 'I wonder if they think I'm fat .... I wonder if they've read that story.’

"I couldn't help it. And I think that once I realized it wasn't going to stop, I had to find a way to accept it, and I had to find a way to use it."

The Price of Beauty aims to encourage women to accept themselves.

Simpson explained: "I'm very vulnerable on the show. I'm very open. I don't have anything to hide.

"I want people to know I am just a normal girl that faces normal issues just like everyone else."

Jessica also revealed that she has been immersing herself in local culture: "In Mumbai, we drank cow urine because it detoxes you and it's good for your skin. I puked that up like all over the place."

She has come across people who have punished their bodies in the quest for beauty including a Thai woman who burnt her skin through bleaching and a French model who starved herself to under 100 pounds.

What a long way Ms Simpson has come since Newlyweds eh?!

The show premiered on Monday and will be aired week by week on VH1.
