Joe beats Cheryl as Alex offers advice

Wednesday 23 December 2009

She was outraged when Joe McElderry was beaten to Christmas Number One on Sunday, but this week Cheryl Cole has found herself being beaten to the top of the charts by her protege!

Joe's single The Climb is currently holding the Number One spot in the charts, while Cheryl's 3 Words is holding the Number 8 position.

3 Words is even being beaten by 1981 classic track Don't Stop Believin' by Journey, which currently holds the Number 6 position.

After an Internet campaign to get them a Christmas Number One, Rage Against The Machine have only sold half as many singles this week, leaving the top spot open for Joe to take.

His rise to the top of the charts has been supported by fellow X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, who has offered some choice words of advice for Joe.

"You get family members you've never heard of and people who bullied you at school wanting to be your friend. Ignore it," Alex said of Joe's new-found fame.

"And Joe's going to have girls throwing themselves at him," she added.

Cheryl's first single Fight For This Love was the fastest-selling single of the year, thanks to a high-octane performance on The X Factor's results show.

It looks like she might have passed on her good fortune to Joe instead!

Do you want Joe or Cheryl to be Number One?

Even if you never liked Elvis, his rendition of Silent Night in part English, part German is actually raises goosebumps on the back! If you've never heard it it's on Amazon.co.uk music download site for very little pence wise!! I agree with you both ladies a Xmas no1 should be about Xmas, no matter who sings it!
Merry Xmas one and all!!

Ladies, one agrees whole-heartedly! Christmas songs that are to be aimed for the number one slot should be reworkings of the classics; songs that have embedded their roots in musical history. One is unsure how the horrendously hyperactive Hannah Montana was drawn into that high ranking club - though one's South Shields studmuffin did do a magnificent job of her song, 'The Climb'.

Incidentally, one is not the slightest bit surprised that Cheryl Cole's 3 Words song (no doubt, 'I Can't Sing') has not reached number one ... and long may it continue. Everytime that woman's singing voice is broadcast, my dear pussy, Crotchet, buries his head in the gap between the seats on the sofa in the Drawing Room. All you hear for the next three minutes is a muffled hiss!

Love, joy and laughter and a Merry Christmas to all
