Joe Swash declared bankrupt

It's only been a year since he won I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!, but Joe Swash has been declared bankrupt.

The 27-year-old Eastenders star owed £20,000 in taxes that he was unable to pay, and the news arose just as he left the country to appear as a guest on this year's I'm a Celebrity series.

It was reported that Joe, whose girlfriend is former co-star Kara Tointon, had managed to repay £100,000 of his debts to the taxman, but unfortunately couldn't find the rest in time, and the Official Receiver has taken control of his assets.

Joe's agent was keen to report that this wasn't true, though, saying: "Joe has not been around to sort this out. The bankruptcy should never have gone through. He's not in financial difficulty - he's fine."

According to the statement, the problem was due to an unpaid tax problem: "There was a tax issue, which will be resolved imminently. Everyone has to pay tax and Joe knows he is no exception."

Joe has recently been starring in Hole In The Wall and a reality TV show with Pamela Anderson, having been axed from Eastenders in 2006.
