Katie Holmes is a 'new woman' and happier than ever after leaving Tom Cruise

Katie Holmes is said to be a ‘new woman’ since her split from Tom Cruise six weeks ago. Holmes, 33, filed for divorce from Cruise, 50, on June 29 following five years of marriage and a family insider has claimed that Katie is ‘wearing a smile’ that hasn’t been seen since she started dating the Mission Impossible star.
Sources close to the former Dawson’s Creek star claim she is happier than ever with her newfound freedom. According to at US website, a friend of Katie’s said: ‘She now gets to see her family more, feels free to concentrate on her career and is no longer living in fear of Scientology.
‘Katie is a new woman, she feels refreshed, free of Tom and doesn’t have a worry in the world.'
The source went on to say, ‘Katie is enjoying her independence and focusing on herself right now’.
It was reported that Tom was controlling over Katie during their five-year marriage, deciding when she could see her family and what films she could appear in. Katie was also a devout Christian, and Tom’s obsession with scientology was a big factor in her decision to divorce Tom.
The couple were together for seven years
It has been reported that Katie was secretly planning an escape route for herself and Suri for a year before she announced the separation in June. Following the shock revelation, the famous couple signed a confidential divorce settlement giving Holmes full custody of Suri.
The source added: ‘It was a relief for her to be finally rid of Tom, but she was filled with some guilt over the way she did it. When she first met Tom, he whisked her off her feet and she was head over heels in love with him. But soon his controlling nature took all the fun out of their relationship.’
Katie is now living in Manhattan’s Chelsea district, having enrolled Suri in local private school . The actress is expected to be returning to Broadway this fall to star in the dark comedy Dead Accounts.
