Louis mourns Stephen Gately
Wednesday 14 October 2009
He had been a manager and mentor to him for more than a decade, and devastated Louis Walsh gave Stephen Gately a tearful tribute yesterday.
As news that Stephen had died from natural causes and had an underlying heart condition reached the public, Louis took the time to pay tribute to the Boyzone singer.
Louis said: "Stephen was never happier when I saw him last Monday. I never saw him in better health or in better form.
"The boys are devastated. It's like they have lost their very, very best friend - and me too."
In his tribute, he said that Stephen was "a working class kid. All he wanted to do was sing and go to the West End. And he loved Disney, that was Stephen."
Stephen's body will be brought home by his bandmates on Friday, and his funeral will take place in Dublin the following day. Louis is said to be unlikely to attend Saturday's X Factor show.
Meanwhile, fans have rallied together to attempt to get Boyzone's No Matter What into the charts as a tribute to Stephen by downloading their hit single.
Will you be buying No Matter What?

I will not be buying "No Matter What". It's a sad tragedy, however it doesn't condone Boyzone's awful music to be back in the chart.

I think its great to put No Matter What in the charts... its no different to all the M.J. music going back in the charts, or when the X Factor singers released the war song last year. Its a way to remember someone; its not even as if Boyzone would take profit from it, they'll probably donate all proceedings to charity.
