Louise Redknapp: 'We 're so not rock and roll'

Wednesday 07 October 2009

While we loooove reading about all the glamorous and outrageous stunts our favourite A-Listers get up to, sometimes it makes a refreshing change to see that some celebs are as happy with normal lifestyle.

Step forward the lovely Louise and Jamie Redknapp, who have just bared all in an interview with Red magazine - and despite being one of those infamous couplings of a former pop starlet and an ex-footballer - which usually lends itself perfectly to OTT extravaganzas - Mr and Mrs Redknapp are surprisingly down-to-earth!

In an open and honest interview, the Redknapps spoke about their family without any airs and graces and clearly weren't afraid to 'say it how it is'.

'We’re really not smug,' Louise told Red, 'We go through all the things that people go through in life. We scream at each other sometimes, we have days when we can’t cope with our kids.’

And the couple, who have two children, Charley, five, and 11-month-old Beau, are intending to keep their boys' feet firmly on the ground too.

‘I guess the most important thing for us,’ says Louise, ‘is that the kids work hard and they are grateful for the life they lead – that they know it doesn’t come easy.’

And Jamie clearly shares that view. Hilariously, he recently had to tell off five-year-old Charley when he told other children on a family holiday in Mallorca that his daddy was famous.

‘I said to him, “It’s not going to make people like you, you know? Besides, you are not famous just because you’ve been in a Nintendo advert." '

Both Louise and Jamie come from very strong, traditional family backgrounds and their upbringing is reflected in their stable marriage and humble demeanor - 'so not rock and roll', as Louise puts it.

The former Eternal singer is happy for her husband, who had to retire early from football after an injury, to look after their family.

‘Even though, on a daily basis, I think I am the boss – I deal with the accountant and choose how to decorate the house – ultimately, he is the man of our home,' she says.

'I don’t mind things a bit old-fashioned, though. He is the boys’ dad and I want them to look up to him. I earn my own money, but Jamie’s the one who keeps it all going. If things went pear-shaped tomorrow, we’d look to him for the answer.’

Awww, bless! Can we have more of that please?

Hmm... do you think the Redknapps really are that normal? And which other celebrity couple would you really like to spill the beans on their life?

I can't stand Jamie - he's so irritating! I can totally believe that they are down to earth as I don't think I ever see him smile when being a pundit. With the life he has - I'd be smiling all the time!

RE: Louise Redknapp: 'We 're so not rock and roll'

It's nice to hear celeb couples keeping their kids grounded to the floor and not just letting them accept mummy and daddy have money or fame so I can do what I want - unlike so many other celeb kids we've seen over the years! Still at 5 and 11 months all bets are off that at sometime in their lives they won't use mummy and daddy's celeb status lol!!
While I can believe they were brought up with some sense of you have to work for every penny and nothing should be taken for granted, they probably still have that ingrained in them somewhere, it's not like they've never had their own celeb moments is it hm?! Perhaps celebs should actually stop trying to convince us that they are just like you and me, it often comes across as patronising even if it's not meant to be - I don't mean the Redknapp interview before anyone shouts at me - celebs live a totally different way to anyone of us, they live in a media bubble that either cushions or ruins them, we wouldn't really want it any other way would we now?!
Would you read an item about celebs changing nappies, doing the shopping, what they ate for each meal - no it would bore you to death lol!! We want something to take us away from our mundane little lives which after all is why celebs are there, to entertain us lol!!
