Lucy Mecklenburgh "I'm scared of getting married"

Tuesday 31 July 2012

She’s known for having one of the best bodies in The Only Way Is Essex, but recently it’s been the rows and rumours surrounding Lucy Mecklenburgh’s relationship that have got people talking. The reality star – who accepted boyfriend Mario Falcone’s proposal in the show’s Marbella special in June – was left in tears at her recent engagement party, after her good friend and co-star Sam Faiers claimed she’d heard rumours that Mario had been sending sex messages to other women.

And Lucy, 20, admits to Closer that, despite sticking by her man, all the arguments have left her feeling unsettled and emotional. She confesses: “I do want to get married, but I’m a bit scared. I’d happily say let’s get married in five years, but I don’t think that’s what Mario wants. I’m not ready for all the questions about the wedding and I don’t want to plan it.”

As Closer went to press, Lucy still hadn’t healed her rift with Sam, who she has known since childhood. She says: “Sam’s my old friend, but I feel like she’s tarnished my engagement [by spreading rumours] and hasn’t said sorry.”

The row came to a head outside Lucy’s engagement party, when Sam – who hadn’t been invited – claimed Lucy had confided in her that Mario had been “messaging other girls again” and added there was “proof” on Twitter. In retaliation, Mario said he’d heard rumours that Sam and her boyfriend Joey Essex had been unfaithful to one another – a claim they both deny.

It isn’t the first time Mario has been accused of contacting other women – in February, he and Lucy briefly split, after he admitted to sending flirty messages to other girls. But a few days later, Lucy agreed to give him another chance – and, this time, she’s convinced the latest rumours are untrue. “I’m genuinely really happy and I trust Mario,” she insists. “He’s with me every night, so I’m sure I’d know if he was having an affair! Unfortunately, being in the position we are in, rumours start that get out of control. But as long as we’re honest with each other, that’s all that matters.”

Despite admitting she is reluctant to plan their wedding, Lucy says she and Mario have discussed having a family. “I would love to have kids. I’ve even got my baby names sorted,” she says. “But I’m still young and have lots to enjoy, so there’s no rush.”

Lucy has also asked best pal and TOWIE co-star Lydia Bright to be her bridesmaid. And she’s certain she will be surrounded by family and her closest friends.
“I’ve no idea when or where we’ll get married, as I’ve been so busy I’ve hardly had time to think about it,” Lucy says. “As long as our family and friends are there, that’s the main thing.
“Because we’re both in the show, me and Mario have friends who are in the public eye, but that’s the only reason we’ll be inviting celebrities.”

And, when the time comes, Lucy doesn’t think she’ll be doing anything drastic to fit into her wedding dress. Unlike many of the TOWIE cast, 5ft 6 Lucy – who weighs 8st – has never had cosmetic surgery. She reveals that she maintains her size 8 figure by following a healthy diet and drinking plenty of metabolism-boosting green tea.

“Like any girl, there are days I’d like to change parts of my body – but, generally, I’m confident and happy with how I look,” says Lucy, who lives in Essex with Mario, 24, and their dog Bentley.
She adds: “My favourite body part is my waist, as it’s 24 inches. My least favourite would be my legs – I used to get called ‘stumpy legs’ when I was younger because I’ve got a long body and short legs. I look ridiculous when I stand next to Lydia, as she’s so leggy.”

Lucy insists she would never have cosmetic or weight-loss surgery, but adds: “I can see why some girls do it, but I would never mess with my face or anything like that. It’s risky and I wouldn’t do it.”
