‘Arg’s jealousy was killing me!’

With rumours of an imminent engagement circulating just a few weeks ago, it seemed Lydia Bright and James “Arg” Argent were destined to be the only couple to have stayed together since the first series of The Only Way Is Essex aired in 2010.
Despite their bickering and numerous on-screen break-ups, Lydia and Arg were seen by many fans as the most solid and genuine pairing on the ITV2 reality show.
But in a frank and tearful interview with Closer, Lydia, 21, admits a series of blazing rows with Arg led to their dramatic split last month because she felt “suffocated.”
“Being with Arg was killing me. He was suffocating me and holding me back.
“He didn’t even like me going out and every time I did, it was a drama. Then he wouldn’t talk to me to punish me for going out.
“James wants a girl who’ll stay at home with him."
“We started going out when I was 17 – I was James’ first girlfriend – but we changed. We’re different people now."
