Matt Lucas in 'despair' over Kevin's death
Thursday 08 October 2009
Friends close to Matt Lucas say that he is in 'a black hole of despair' over the death of his ex-civil partner Kevin McGee.
The reports come after news that Matt had paid thousands of pounds a week to put his boyfriend through rehab while the pair were married was published.
The Little Britain star checked Kevin into The Causeway Retreat in Essex in a bid to help him kick his cocaine habit, but unfortunately to no avail.
Reporters have said that Kevin was taking up to five grammes of cocaine a day at the time of his death.
A friend of Matt's told the Sun: "He's been crying and feeling really angry about Kevin's death. He tried so hard to stop him taking drugs and to sort his life out, but Kevin was out of control."
Matt has been supported by comedian friends David Walliams and Jimmy Carr, who last night stayed over at his house, only leaving to fetch him some food.
The comedy chief of the BBC added his condolences to the overwhelming support that Matt received, saying in a note on Kevin's memorial: "I'm really sorry and I wish it wasn't too late to help."

RE: Matt Lucas in 'despair' over Kevin's death
Really sorry for anyone suffering the loss of a loved one through death... Its savage enough to loose someone to natural causes or illness, but to loose a loved one to suicide is something that is even more tragic and sad. Words cannot convey how desperately sad I feel at this lovely man's loss and at his friend's death.
