Myleene: 'I look like a chipmunk at the mo'
Wednesday 16 February 2011
Myleene Klass is supporting the EDF Energy New Low Carbon Vision for London and after getting up at 4am to get photographs taken in front of the London Eye, she’s surprisingly perky when Closer pops in for a chat.
Laughing, “caffeine and chips are getting me through!” we meet at a London hotel to chat about her second pregnancy, romance, and her globe-trotting offspring.
Hi Myleene, you don’t seem as tired as you should!
M: I’m surprised! I was up at 4am to shoot in front of the EDF Energy London Eye and I was sneaking out of the door because my daughter Ava is just like her dad, a bodyguard. She hears everything! She looks like me but she’s as sharp as Gray.
Your second baby is due in March, you look well.
M: No, I look like a tomato with a big chipmunk face! I have put weight on my face. Graham actually said I don’t look jowly this time, so I was like, ‘You never said I looked jowly last time!’ Now when Gray tells me I look nice I know it’s just to get me out of the house.
I’ve actually lost half my shoe collection, because I’m usually a five and now I’m a six. Hopefully it won’t stay that way because I’ve spent years, blood, sweat and tears collecting these shoes. I have a shoe room – forget marriage, I have a shoe room!
How do you think Ava will cope with a new sister?
M: I think she’ll be brilliant. Initially we had problems because she wanted a rabbit instead, but now she says she’s going to wash the baby’s hair, give her the bottle. She’s fine.
You’re still really busy, are you working right up until the birth?
M: Yes because work’s the easy bit – it’s being a stay-at-home mum that’s relentless!
Is it boring always getting asked when you and Graham [Quinn] will get married? You’ve been engaged since 2006…
M: A lot of people force the hand of marriage, but why? Would that stop him or me wandering? Every day I feel lucky I wake up to him, we have a child, one on the way and we will get married. I would love to say ‘this is my husband,’ though I won’t take his name! But there’s just so much more to it and it’s a shame so much emphasis is put on paperwork.
So what’s your secret?
M: Well we are so chalk and cheese. If we were on a dating website we would never get matched up – we don’t actually agree on anything except how we raise Ava. I’m glad we met when he was my bodyguard, it totally made the difference. It was illicit, we knew we shouldn’t, did it anyway, and I got with the hot bodyguard! I love that story, I’m gonna be able to tell that to Ava one day.
You never seem to care about the scrutiny on your life, or the paparazzi following you – how are you always so cheery?
M: Well paps have always been really nice to me. One guy carried my bags once, one got me a taxi, last week one helped me park my car. They’re handy! With some stories you do think ‘get a grip on reality’ but I’ve said this before, there’s no harsher critic out there than myself. You can’t criticise me more than I do. Plus I worked so hard to get recognition for the job I do, so if I don’t want it I don’t go out. Go work on a premature babies ward or a dialysis ward and get a reality check is what I’d say to people who moan about it!

What a nice grounded person she seems. It's so nice not to hear a celebrity moaning about being famous. The paps are nice to her and don't giver her a hard time because she is nice to them, a lesson that a lot of other so called celebs could learn from.
